ps3 connectivity

Doubt it.

To do it without wires you'd need a wireless router and wireless card in the PC. The PS3 has wirelessness built in and there's many threads on here detailing how to set up the PC as a media server.

yeah i only have a wired router at the moment and it's pretty old and can only run at 5mb and my connection is 20mb.

really need to look into a wireless router now.

I am baffled, considering the crappiest router you could own would be 10MB. Most will be 100MB, and the odd one will be 1000MB.

Unless you have an old (really old!!) router it is minimum 100MB and you have done your maths wrong :)

Had mine going wirelessly for a while via TVersity and it worked really nicely. To be honest, though, I've found that the best solution for me ended up being to whack it all on a 16gb USB stick...

As RP said, I'd be amazed if it was rated at 5mb.

10mb maybe, 100mb more likely on an old router.

Either way, by the sound of it you'll need a new router to get this done properly. :)

i have a Belkin F5D5230-4 when my pc is connected i get a maximum speed of 560kb/s compared with 2400kb/s when its not connected and on top of that it can't handle that many connections or it crashes, loading up steam is a no go as it instantly crashes.

i bought it when cable fist came out really.

I assume he's talking about his modem/router in reference to his internet connection speed not being what it could be being an additional factor influencing him to buy a new modem/router( in addition to allowing him to add his ps3 to his network wirelessly), not the speed on the lan ports. I also assume he cannot run a cable from his modem/router to his ps3.

edit: I also type too slow.

Wired routers have a limit and are not 100mbps/1000mbps

I will have to look into this if it is true as my internet speed will be raised from 20mbps to 50mbps next month.

Modern ones don't, any 100mb router/switch/hub will be fine. He has some really old thing, which I still don't understand. If the PC(s) and the PS3 are both connected to the LAN ports and streaming to one another I fail to see why the internet connection speed is relevant.

internet speed is a big problem, my router restricts my 20mb down to 5mb. i dont want to connect a router to my pc that only allows a 1/4 of my connection.

just had a quick google and it seems it has a feature that splits the bandwidth between the 4 ports which would make sense as 4/20mb = 5mb.

not for just streaming no but ........ :P

ok a new router it is, the ps3 has built in wifi yes? so all i need is a wireless router and jobs done?
