If you want to connect your PS3 Controller to your PC follow this guide on Youtube

Let me know how you get on, I have it working here in all my games under Windows 8

yup i use this and works great.

I am finding that whenever I disconnect the controller or reboot the PC I have to go back into the DS3 Tool and enable the Xbox 360 controller emulator as pictured in the pink

It's fiddly, I get the same issues when pairing using bluetooth USB dongles, might have to put up with it, I'm always having to re-enable the pairing between uses.

The fact that I have to do this doesn't bother me that much, at first when I rebooted the PC or disconnected the controller NFS Most Wanted wouldn't allow me to set the gamepad controls properly ie wouldn't recognise a left stick manoeuvre.

It was after that, that I discovered you just go to DS3 Tool and choose to enable the Xbox 360 Controller Emulator every time after a reboot or if you just disconnect and reconnect the controller and NFS Most Wanted is setup automatically for gamepad control.

I don't really want to keep my controller connected at all times as it may ruin the battery.

Remove that junk fast guys, they is reports of Motioninjoy sending data to servers in China thats why the program is always connected online.

He explains better here -

Use Better DS3 instead
http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/

Thanks I have switched to Better DS3 and I much prefer it, however I don't know where DS3 Tool originally came from, I have a file called

MotioninJoy_050002_amd64.exe

Was it included in that or are they just the drivers?

DS3 tools is MotioninJoy, For Better DS3 just get the drivers out of the Folder from MontioninJoy/DS3 tools and then remove that junk.

Think the video I posted covers everything.

The motioninjoy is an application so do I have to install it first to load the drivers then uninstall DS3 Tools and just use Better DS3 instead, cannot see a way of getting to the drivers without installing DS3 Tools.

Sorry yes you already have MotioninJoy installed?? If so inside the Program folder find the location of MotioninJoy and grab the Driver folder from in there.
Back it up and remove Motioninjoy from PC by Control panel.

Sorry I posted wrong video first time for the guide

I got it, you install Motioninjoy then choose to uninstall and when you do this is doesn't uninstall the drivers just DS3 Tool program itself.

Then you load Better DS3 and it works like DS3 Tool but a lot better!

Is what they're sending malicious? Its free and supported by adds so it's going to be making connections to the web to pull ads and report click through of ads for revenue, etc.

Either way thanks for the info, I wasn't aware there was another tool that did this.

Its easy to install, just use the existing MotioninJoy_050002_amd64.exe or 32bit version to install both the drivers and DS3 Tool.

Then go into the DS3 Tool file location where there is an uninstall option, this only uninstalls the DS3 Tool program and not the drivers.

Once you have done this start using Better DS3 in the same way you used DS3 Tools although rejoice at the much friendlier interface.

No idea what its doing :D better to be safe than sorry though.. At the end of the day nothing should be on your system sending data without you knowing.

I personally feel there was nothing malicious about DS3 Tool but I didn't really like the interface so decided to make the effort and figure out how to use Better DS3 instead.

It paid off as I actually prefer Better DS3 and its not difficult to install if you already have the drivers and DS3 Tool install application.
