PS3 controllers

Are PS3 controllers quite durable? I gave my PS3 with 2 controllers to my dad and my sister for 6 months and I just got it back and both the R1 and R2 buttons don't work on both controllers.

Obviously now I'm expected to buy replacements but this seems a bit fishy to me and I'm quite put off as I have never broken a console controller before.

Does anyone here had any problems with sony official ps3 controller?

Thanks for the comments everyone and the controllers really feel very good quality and I have owned a PS1, PS2 and PS3 and have never broken any sony controller before.

I just assume either my dad nerd raged while playing his racing games or my 9 year old sister just went too trigger happy on the R1 button.

Solution: they will pay for it.
