ps3 crash help???

hi

ive just been playing a bit of call of duty black ops online and my ps3 shutdown while playing , i got 3 beeps and then it shutdown showing the red light flashing.

i managed to switch it on again and all seemed fine but its happened again while playing black ops.

i have latest firmware but before i updated to 3.56 i got the first crash , so i dont think its firmware but something else:(

any ideas guys , its a older fat ps3

Its a known problem with Black Ops mate, nothing to do with the PS3.

The game will freeze and you will have to button the PS3 at the back......not ideal but hey.....tell Activision, see if they care :)
 
oh bum!

ive just tryed a file restore under the ps3 diognostic menu!

i dont think it deletes anything though, is it really black ops because ive just googled the problem and it seems a common error?

Holding the power button down should turn it off, even if it crashes. Shouldn't really use the switch.
 
hang on though this is not causing a freeze , my ps3 has just crashed 2 times while playing the game.

3 beeps
ps3 shuts down
red light flashing
 
The PS3 shuts itself down while your playing??!?!!? o.O .....Sorry I didnt read your first post very well.....

This could be something to do with overheating? the vents on the ps3 are have space to release air right?
 
cheers , ive done the fan test , and also the file restore in diognostics ,it did say i had corrupt files when i went threw the process (but i dont know if that was a default message?)

my ps3 has plenty of space around it also , i suppose its not the worst thing if i have to replace it as i have not got much on it and its my first edition which ive had for nearly 4 years i think.
 
That is how my 2nd PS3 died, it started oding that more frequently until it would shut down immidiately at the end.

I am 90% sure it was a faulty hardware temp sensor thinking the PS3 was overheating when it wasn't.

have a look at the vents to see if there is a lot of dust there and if there is blow it out.
 
well like i say fan test is done and all seems dust free , i just checked prices of the new slim ps3 , i swear they have got more expensive since i got my fat ?
 
If it plays for awhile before crashing I'd take it in to Gamestation and trade it, if you have a CEX Exchange locally you can print off their trade in value which is usually higher and they will price match plus a £1 in Gamestation. I did it and got £147 for my 40GB which will go a long way toward a slim. :D

I should say that my 40GB was in perfect working order, I just wanted a slim as I take it round my mates in a backpack now to hook up to his spare t.v.
Buying second hand is always a trade off between price and reliability but at least CEX, Gamestation etc you get a years warrantty on them.
I think he should still sue Activision for bringing out a 360 port that runs like a three legged horse on the PS3 and crashes your console. ;)
 
today ive updated my gt 5 game so that i can backup the save but just as i was about to copy the save it crashed again:( .

tryed restarting and it freezed on the sony playstation startup logo then crashed , since then i cant get it to turn on , it just atempts to start before crashing.

i also notice a bit of yellow light as well now , this does not look good.

this is my first ever console thats giving up.


*still cant find a copy feature for gt5 after update?

if you see a yellow light just before it starts flashing red you have YLOD
