PS3 Crashing...

So I have borrowed a friends PS3, as he is out the country, and it keeps crashing on me mostly during startup but does do it from time to time.

I can get it working by constantly doing a rebuild, I have also formatted it before which fixed it for a few hours.

Now, with it working on the format, I assume it is the HDD?

Has anyone had this before?

I need to fix it before he gets back, as I KNOW he will blame me!
