PS3 cross game chat next update!

Just read this on the US PS3 forum

"I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. There was somewhere else that posted some info on this a few weeks ago and it also stated it was due end of october .
But we,ve heard these rumours before and then been let down at last moment .

I'll believe it when I see it implemented. As someone said already, its rudimentary stuff that should have been included from the off. Shame really as PSN as a free service works very well and the store is getting better. Oh and don't updates only being added one a week? I thought we were in the digital age....

I can't recall where I initially read it but it was definitely mentioned it would arrive in firmware 3.10.

Yes it did, you could start a chat with anyone at anytime - it just didn't have party chat.

Yeah I heard that Sony supposedly wanted to try to retrofit it into old games causing a few to break - namely some from a particular publisher who again supposedly vetoed the idea.

Dont really believe it myself - is the feature itself patented by MS? Why dont Sony cough up royalities if it is to add it in, if its so important (again a reason why you cant play MP3s in most games cos the game, not the platform - unlike 360 - need to support it)...

Not really bothered anymore - its not a feature which would stop me getting a PS3 again

My thoughts exactly, I find it so frustrating that such a basic feature is missing from XMB, being unable to chat to a mate as the game is loading is really old hat imo, not too fussed about a party chat, it would be nice to have private comms at least one to one.
