Haha I could see this coming  (running ticker on BBC News)

More and more reason to join the Xbox 360 club :D looks like I gave my cousin the right advice....he's just bought one and well pleased ;)

ROFL. I bet Microsoft cannot believe how this one has been handed to them!

Also gives me more time to save up for it :)

I had almost forgotten how little Sony seems to care about the European market.

I’m actually surprisingly frustrated by this, I had no intention of buying one at launch but it seems to indicate we will slip into the same frustrating cycle of getting games 3-6 months after they launch everywhere else, something MS has been able to avoid on the 360.

oh well, the playstation brand is finished.
 :-/

anyway...
just heard about this on Radio One, from what i heard - it's because they want to focus more on the Japanese and American markets. it's also a case of they haven't got enough to go around.... but where have we heard that before?

Woot! Another set back for the Blu-Ray camp :p

Me being completely unbiased in the format war ;)

I was thinking the same thing. Still, I feel sorry for the guys who are excited about the PS3... (all 7 of them ;))

Too many PR problems for Sony with the PS3 at the moment so I think it was inevitable that it would be delayed until they can get their act together.

With the lack of general interest in high-definition DVD players as well it doesn't look great for the PS3 if it was released this year.

I think many Europeans are already thinking of getting to 360 due to the Pro Evo/Fifa exclusivity deal, todays news won't do anything to help things.

I agree with this.

I don't get the "lasers are harder to make" argument... if it's possible to ship x units to the US and Japan why the hell don't they cut some of their allocation and distribute it in Europe?

Was hanging out for PS3 but now I think I'll go with Xbox360.. I've got no brand allegiance anyway so it wasn't a "omg Microsoft sux" attitude stopping me, but with the PS3 delayed until March I can't see Xbox360 prices changing radically until then.

Very disappointing.

Not really, the US is still the primary market in terms of the format war.

PMSL

When did I start saying the PS3 was coming out in Europe in 2007? Was it May or June 2005?

I knew Sony could not do a world wide launch. And I knew they would never release it in Europe in 2006.

MS now has 2 Christmases over Sony. And Nintendo will have one.

I don't think Sony will do that well in Europe for a while now.

BTW it is these sorts of broken promises that made me turn my back on Sony.

Just read this, WOW!

The 360 will get a nice head start in Europe now. Ironically, this is where MS said the real battle for next gen would take place.

lol sony has become a mass of inorganisation over the ps3 it seems! they have tried to put a brave face on it for a few months now, but have seemingly allowed the inevitable to happen, and skanked up the "worldwide" launch, which was never really going to happen.

still, with the $ rate it might be worth importing one..

The importers are going to have a field day again, much like they did with the PSP. No doubt Sony will try their best to crack down on it.
