So hey guys... my PS3 died in august/july-ish... and Got a new one for Christmas (I know it's not christmas yet, I just know) and, my question is, if I took out the old PS3 HDD, and plugged it into an external 2.5" HDD enclosure, would I be able to save my savegames?

I wish it were that simple, Sony (Those devilish ********) require a compulsory Format for any new HDD's that you put into the PS3's... so I have to get the data off of the HDD without using a PS3 :(

Unless you can get the old PS3 working again, your saves are gone.

pretty sure i read this elsewhere, in fact its the reason i back up what i can to a mem stick every couple of weeks.

no idea why ms & sony cant tie the saves to your account and back them up to a server somewhere

They're Stupid  and, I did that for the first few months, but then I got in to the state of false security of, nah thats never gonna happen to me...

I guess, I'll just have to open her up and "Inspect" :/

in fairness only half of the games i own allow me to back the saves up, so even doing this is not ideal.

good luck !
