PS3 Digital Out (optical)

Right, I have bought a monitor for my PS3 and PC use. I know it has HDMI but it also doesn't have speakers(not good when the audio is also going through the HDMI cable). So want to make use of the PS3's Digital Out (optical) so I am able to have sound, but I haven't got a clue what to look for.
I would like to be able to share the speakers between the PS3 and the PC so I don't have to buy two sets, obviously they aren't going to be connected at the same time, but if there was a switch so I could quickly watch a video (with audio) while the ps3 is paused this would be great.
I think ill need new speakers but I'm hoping the ones I've got are fine, 2.1 (normal green jack into computer). But if I do need new ones if you could suggest a 2.1speaker set(haven't got space for anything bigger) that would be a great help.

Hope you guys have some answers. :D

PS: If there is any other way to get sound other than this please tell me.

EDIT: I think I have found something out... is 5.1 surround sound minimum for the Digital Out (optical) ?

Ok thanks for the reply but if there isn't anything cheaper than that, is there any other ways i can get audio?
I'm only 15 and cant really get that kind of cash, after buying a PS3 4 games and a HD monitor to play it on. :D Kinda skint right now but £50 is really pushing it.
Any other ideas?

What you want if your on a budget is a set of 2.1 Speakers with a 3.5mm jack (the green one) then what you want to do is get the composite lead (the yellow, red and white one) and buy one of these...

Picture 1.

And then buy one of these...

Picture 2.

Plug the Red and White connectors from the composite lead into Picture 1. and then Plug the other end and your speakers into Picture 2.

Hope that helps mate, nice and cheap :) - And works fine with Headphones if you want a bit of privacy ;)

Sounds great mate, I use it and it sounds fine.

Names would be something like:

1. 2 x female phono to male 3.5mm jack.
2. female to female 3.5mm jack.

Thanks for your help guys. I ordered them both off the bay. Made sure they were gold plated for best quality. Got both of them for Sub £5.
:D
