Every DVD I play through my PS3 is unwatchable. Its really blurry and blocky and looks like something you download off the internet.

This is with upscaling on, without it the problem is even worse. I'm watching via HDMI on my 1080p monitor.

What can I do?

Without being able to see specifically how bad the pixelation and blurring is, I can only assume you're expecting way too much of the upscaler, especially to 1080p.

Surely a DVD shouldn't have horrendous grain and blur? Maybe I am expecting too much, but I heard from people that upscaled DVDs look pretty good, whereas mine very much dont :(

What dvd's are you watching? Are they from old programs as that would amplify any noise contained within.

You could also experiment with some of the AV settings by pressing triangle whilst the dvd is play and altering some settings.

Edit: Also if you have access to another screen best try it on that as well for example an HDTV

DVD output is only ever going to be as good as the source material tbh. Double check the res that your monitor is outputting during playback, and also check the discs on another player.

If all other formats are playing fine on the PS3 (including, say MP4 videos), then it's unlikely that it's the PS3 at fault...

So far i tried iRobot and 300.imagine that they have been compressed and thats what it looks like, blocky. They're genuine dvds not copies or anythin and work fine on my mates ps3 in the living room.my monitor is full 1080p compatible so i just don't get it.i've tried fiddling with settings during playback, only upscaling makes a difference and thats marginal :(
