sony are still making 60gb BC ntsc machines so they should have no problem getting them

i reckon its just a bios flash or something that makes a console pal or ntsc

Just had my noisy 60Gb UK launch PS3 replaced by Sony with another new 60Gb BC model 2 weeks ago (even though it was out of warranty)!

brill service, 5 min phone call and getting a refurb unit out to me on monday. oddly i'm in the minority whose 360 has functioned perfectly for years while their ps3 conked out but tbh with service like that i don't care. builds brand loyalty that does.

next question is, i have a sata hard drive spare, is there any way i can back up my game saves before the swap?

You can do a backup via the PS3 XMB but that might require you to have an external HDD or USB drive. Or if you have a spare 60GB HDD for the PS3 just stick that in instead and keep the old drive.

Plenty of variations in fan behaviour / noise due to fan type / environmental conditions etc. just like the 360.

There is a fault where units go all the way to stage 3 fans and stay there regardless of what the console is doing.

PS3 died today - Its only really used for DVD's and blu rays and thats occasionally.

Lens failure - It wont read anything.

Will be replaced next friday, straight swap for a refurb unit...

Will serve me right for mocking Xbox360 owners and RROD
