Somehow my friend busted his ethernet port on PS3. It's not possible to use it. I know he could send it to Sony but after some thinking I have an idea. Could he buy one of those usb to rj45 things?

Anyone tried/got one working on PS3? He still uses the old 1 ethernet port modem and he has not got the cash to get a new wireless router.

I doubt that will be correctly reconised. Your only option is to now go wireless.

His best route would be giving it to sony to repair to be honest. It's a fast turn around, and he'll have a working unit then, i dont think the usb adapter will work

Before I start recommending stuff to him I should stick to a cheap Netgear? Saw a 40 dollar one on Newegg he can buy that seems to do the job. The NETGEAR WGR614 model.

If the guy wants to stream HD 1080p movies, It's crap over wireless.

He has a warranty for a reason, It makes sense to use it surely? Rather than paying out

It sounds like its his fault its broken though, warranty wouldn't cove that, or it may be out of warranty.

The best and most expensive route would be to send it off to Sony for repair. The cheapest and the one i'd personally do is buy a wireless router and have it on wireless.

Only problem is that well, the wireless is very bad on PS3. I cannot get it to stay connected, download speed is 1/5 of wired connection. Maybe he will have better luck than me since he will be right next to it.

Wireless should be fine with the PS3.Maybe its your router.

I use wireless, and have had no issues that you describe.
