Hi

Just bought my first ps3 off ebay.
I set up PS network and downloaded dead space 2 demo, and while it was at like 15% the fans kicked in big time, it was really noisy.
So i took a look down the vents with a torch and it looked very clean inside.
I tuned the console off and on and it was fine for about 5 mins then it went loud again.

So I decided to open it up and re apply some decent thermal paste.
So i open the thing up and striped it to the mother board and then using some TIM cleaner i removed the old paste, I also took out the fan and didn't clean it as its already really clean and dust free!
I then re apply some MX-3 suff from ocuk and then close the thing back up.

Now i turn it on and its all fine and the fans are dead quite, I play and complete the dead space 2 demo and its still quite, I then watch a full 30 mins epp of that "come fly with me" and its still quite!
Great im thinking!

But then while browsing the oh so demanding playstation shop, it kicks in at like full speed again!!
and whats annoying is the air coming out is slightly warm at first but then goes cool and the stupid fan is still at full whack!

Any one know what i could do to fix this? im sure its not overheating.
Could it be the new firmware update?

Unfortunately this just seems to happen to them, and there doesn't seem to be much of a fix for it other than what you've tried already.

good contact him tell him the problem and that the ps3 has been opened before

take no nonsense contact ebay paypal and get the ball rolling and get your money back

this problem will get worse

This is the worst advice I have herd.

The buyer openly admits it has removed the warranty sticker, and messed about inside.

If it's the older fat models, I would not worry too much as they are quite loud anyway.

The other sticker on the back will be from somewhere like game, gamestation etc. They always put extra stickers on.

Maybe you put too much thermal paste on and it's not getting a good contact, if the seller never mentioned the warranty sticker was removed then I would look for a refund as it sounds like it might have been a quick fix. The older models were not that loud, and the fan should not be at full speed just browsing the PS Store.

Yea its doing my head in, only cus i dont get why!

Any way i love to tinker with things, so i might mod the fan with a variable dimmer like switch! Shame i cant see any temps but that may one day be possible thanks to geohot.

Any way ive left it idle for about 1 hr in the dash board and its silent atm, i just dont get why it stays on full pelt when its cooled back down!
