Hey guys, had a 2nd hand ps3 for a couple of months now... all of a sudden its started getting quite hot and hte fans are going verry fast after i have a game running for 5 mins,

any thing i can do about this?

ty

Try to lay it flat - I had my 60 gig on it's side and I don't think that's good enough to let air in, as the rubber feet only leave a tiny gap...

tried both upright and flat (had it flat since i bought it) and it does same thing....

anything i can do as am gerrin concerned over this and dairnt leave it on for long

if its still under warantee get it fixed.
if not take it apart yourself and clean all the cobwebs out and replace the fan or clean the fan.

if not sell it to me :) before it breaks completely lol

lol ok iel have to get back to the original owner it should be under warranty se what happens, if he messes me about i might sell it u virus ;)

What version is it? You can buy external cooling units that clip on the back of the console, not sure how effective they are, all i know is that they exist :)

if its a 40gb version you can do a fan test that gets most of the dust out. Just switch it off at power at back and hold the reset button while switching it on again. Clears out any crap. Also go over the vents with a hoover. No need to do it all the time. If it continues then try directing air at it with a fan. Of course you could argue that if the fan spins faster its just going to bring in more dust :p

ok n now its started going fast again :( ffs

You do not really need to contact the original owner unless he has registered the console to his name.

I had a 40GB PS3 that did this, and it was defective.

I would just contact Sony and tell them it is in the 12 month warranty and get it fixed/replaced.

They will want you to fax to them proof of time of purchase, but a printout of an email receipt from the place of buying within the last year will do this ;););)
