PS3 Firmware update 2.10

Probably best you don't mention that sort of stuff here, the mods won't like it.

and to be fair, I'm no pro on the subject anyway.
I've just been learning by making it up, and working it out as I go along.

I have had mkv files converted and playing on the PS3, but it was far more hassle than it was worth.

Most of them come with DD5.1 or better sound.
I tried converting them with that Video9 program.

if you feed an mkv into that, that has an audio file with a bitrate of 640kbps (which seems to be a standard) then it won't work. (due to a bug I gather)

So you have to get another program, to demux the mkv file to seperate video and audio files.

reencode the audio as 2.0 and a lower bitrate

remux the files to one mkv file

then use video9 to convert this mkv file to a PS3 .mp4 file

Then, it's ready for playing.

I did it a few times, and that was enough for me.

As of this morning, the XMB still doesn't play the few .mkv files I have here (which are TV eps), but it is at least supporting 5.1 sound, which is something that I, and I'm sure others have been waiting for. Funny it just appeared without any kind of fanfare.

So the xmb is getting better, can now play xvid and divx files, even with 5.1 sound, including HD divx files. It can play HD MPEG2 files with 5.1 sound, as I just did with a certain Captain Mal Reynolds film :)

for .mkv, I use the PC ;) Until a better piece of software comes out to deal with them, or the PS3 can play them direct.

V1N.

EDIT: as for this newer version of TsRemux, that creates a valid bluray folder structure, that's interesting, and something I'll be playing with in the future.

Gamersyde videos are working a treat even their recent videos of GT5

MP4 960x540 (60 Frames Per Sec Video)
WMV 540x960
H264 720x1080

That's great to know :)
Not just the Gamersyde site, but nice to know that h.264 content downloaded from elsewhere (ie. not the PSN) is working properly, plus WMV of course :)

A good update, and hopefully, better still compatibility will be added to it.
I'm sure it will. Sony have been adding more and more with each firmware.

V1N.

tried disk with 4 films on, 3 worked.

tried same disk in 360, 3 worked but it said to download an update for it to play the 4th, all 4 now work.

question, anyone know if Sony will be doing the same as MS and offering a fix/update for the above?

can you test if that 4th film works if your ethernet cable/wireless receiver isn't plugged in on your 360

Any PS1 game disc in the PS3 will now play on PSP via remote play

Secret change in this patch, yet Sony won't advertise it! Their marketing department sucks! Just when I think I don't really need to buy a PSP, Sony comes along and does something like this! Vagrant Story on the PSP, yes please!

It's indeed true. This is Tekken 3 on the PSP, being run from the PS3:

Just the simple premise of running Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy on PSP is enough to make me buy one, but I'll have to wait till next year, I am absolutely skint. Bloody Christmassery and all.

How does the PSP compensate for not having L2, R2 and the thumbsticks in all the PS1 games?

hold down select and r1 and l1 become r2 and l2 i believe.

this and wipeout pulse make me want a psp so much.

on the subject of wipeout, the website has a skin editor that allows you to customise any ship and uplod it to your psp for use.

:want:

Yeah exactly mate, they just don't look right on a big HDTV they haven't aged that well, but I reckon they would look sweet on the little PSP screen. I too will have to wait until next year though, theres always Easter :D

Finally got mine working shame about the fat32 file format it really limits large hard drives. Hopefully this will change in future updates to accept 500 gig ntfs file formats.

So when you say remote play, does that mean you can play it anywhere there's an accessible wireless connection?! Or is it just within range of the PS3?
