PS3 Firmware update 2.10

Is it possible to split large mkv files (6gig or more) into smaller chunks (so they can be put on a fat32 drive) and converted into a file format the ps3 can play, without too much loss of quality?

I hate the time it takes to convert files into PS3 playable formats! Might get one of those hardware decoder sticks to make it quicker :) (I currently use visualhub on a mac to convert everything to play on ps3 or ipod touch)

thanks in advance!

dynamic range control for LPCM is in there now, great news for those of us who can use LPCM and fancy a bit of late-night theatre. previously, full-range lpcm was deafeningly dynamic and you have to be running at reference level (loud!) for it to sound right. a good compromise untill they get hd bitstreaming working:)

and, actually thinking about it, good for LPCM gaming too

Tried it last night, when I copy some DIVX files with TVersity the filename gets messed up, where there is a space TVersity puts a % but this has always been a problem, when I copy them using a Memorystick the filenames are correct and it also plays a thumbnail so I guess I will use a 4GB stick to copy them.

I did notice that one file said Unsupported Data even though it plays fine on the PC but maybe it is a copy error so I will try again.

You can disable ranscoding in TVersity settings so that it just plays the DIVX instead of Transcoding to a MPEG2 file.

I like the new visualiser for music playback!! Heroes theme tune on repeat and some fantastic satellite/CGI images of Earth. (It feels like the beginining of a Heroes episode!!)

Regarding the PS1 game remote play, at first I thought it would be very cool but it still requires the PS3 so why play on the small PSP when I can play the game on a 40" LCD

You could be away in a hotel that allows for Wi-Fi. You could be downstairs.
Someone might want to watch TV. Someone might want to play the Xbox360 (in my case people do so I can't use the PS3). You may want to play in bed.
You may be at a friends house and want to play a game.

There are plenty of reasons.

Don't forget remote play works over the Internet. Also The PSPs native screen resolution is 4xx*272, your ps3 is 1920*1080. PS1 games were natviely 320*240.

Don't forget, if you have Media Player 11 (or possibly even 10) installed, it takes seconds to share a folder with that. Just share the folder with DivX files in it, and you can copy to the PS3 over the network using that. You don't have to leave it running all the time either... just pop into the Media Player options, and tick the box to turn it on or off, and the Media Player Server will appear in the PS3 XMB, you can copy files, and turn it off again.

Saved fiddling with a USB key, though of course, this method works too.

V1N.

away in a hotel and you would rather play with a 10 year old game than "other things"
downstairs - well if i was downstairs i would be doing something else rather than gaming
360 - doesnt your tv have picture in picture and picture by picture, 1 set of headphones and you both have sound and play on 20 inches each or 7 inches and 40 inches
play in bed - i already do on my pc, ps3, x360
playing whilst outseid of my home, well when im out im doing far more interesting things than playing 10 year old games on my own

for me its a useless feature, i reckon only hardcore geeks with no friends will ever make any proper use of it, sorry but thats my honest opinion

well how many of you guys own a ps3 and a psp and still have tons of "original" ps1 games?

The downloadable games off PSN work as well through this update, which can be bought for about 3 pounds each (I think). But I see your point, FOR YOU, this is a useless feature.
