Hey guys,

I do not want to upgrade my firmware to anything above 3.50 which is already installed, however i do want to do a full format.

If i do a format from the recovery menu will my PS3 still be at 3.50 or will it some how come back to 4.0 or below which it could may have been in the past.

Thanks
Chris

It cannot upgrade to the new firmware unless you have downloaded it.

IIRC there is no way of going back to a pre hack release if you are post hack release so it's probably never had 4.0 on it.

I hope this is only got using the legit sides of a hacked PS3 though.

It's actually not being used for the purposes you may think. I have a cinema room and all my PS3 games are backed up onto the drive.

It stops kids messing with my discs!

Ah backup - not heard that one before...

It quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, its a... Zebra

It won't automatically update to a higher firmware, but when you restore the backup you created of the drive it may ask you to install the firmware first. Just depends on your model and whether its a NOR/NAND system.

Either way, just put the firmware back on it that you already had... by the way you can go as high as 3.55 without losing the systems current "capabilities".

*Note: I came back from the dark side a while ago, my PS3 is up to date. :D

Why would upgrading the firmware prevent this? :o
