PS3, future.

I really don't see the PS3 overtaking the 360 in terms of games or graphics.
I believe that each console will have games that run better on their hardware but in general it will pretty much just be even running. As for who will have better games, that's pretty subjective and all depends on the actual person playing the games.
The only thing I see maybe tilting anything is the Blu-ray drive on the PS3, it may be hideously slow but there's no denying that more data can be stored on it.

Pretty much equal imho. The 360 rep is starting to slide due to reliability. People let it slide before now warranties have passed people are geting miffed. That creates bad feedback and recommendations.

Its going to become more widespread this year as more and more out of warranty 360's go to the skip.

Then the price of the ps3 doesnt seem so bad. It will become a 'you get what you pay for' scenario.

Ps3 in the long term imo. Microsoft made good ground but haven't the hardware to maintain the momentum.

Yeah I tend to agree that they will probably have an equal share of the market given a year ot two.

I have spent much more time over the last couple of days playing the 360 but if the same games were out on the PS3 I would definately play them on there just because it's quieter and I prefer the controller.

Sony doesnt have the 1 year head start it had with the ps2
Exactly - plus the history of the PS1, which counted for a lot. Back in the day, the XBox was a bit of an unknown whereas we all knew that PS2 would carry on the PSX tradition, whereas now everybody knows what to expect from MS.

Yeah they do and it's a great games machine, but they may if their not carefull and look after their customers end up with a Lada tag for the 360.

You could say people only complain on a forum when something goes wrong, but just this forum is littered with breakages. Not people that have registered to complain, long term users. Lots have wii's no complaints and no new members complaining. Same with the ps3.

The fact I have a spare 360 shows my vote of confidence in the hardware. Both have extended warranties.

I'll say what i've said often, I think the PS3 will get the edge in the future market. As the Cell matures, I believe the games produced for the PS3 will perform better than the 360 equivalent.

This is how im seeing it.

But then it makes more sense to grab a PS3 when better titles are out that utilise the hardware better. :)

Saving a bundle at the same time.

I doubt the PS3 will have noticeably better graphics. MS are a software powerhouse and as long as they provide good development support to developing teams sony have zero chance of pulling away graphically.

Just thought i'd post that I and 3 friends are still on there launch consoles, they have not skipped a beat and they're man handled between uni flats and houses all the time. Also 2 other mates are on models about 6 months old that also have had no troubles. I really do not think the hardware is to blame, imo its poor placement/poor power outlets or something. I don't think the failure rates on these are even close to those of the ps2 at launch/the following 2 and half years ish.

You have to think about what games you want to play.

I personally feel that both consoles will have some fantastic looking games and we'll still be tit-tating about which is the better console up to the next generation.

I don't think the PS3 will ever 'blow' the 360 away like Sony have implied (xbox 1.5, next generation starts when we launch, the PS3 is 10 times more powerful etc etc etc). Both consoles have the same amount memory (360 has slightly more available memory due to OS) so the textures will always be roughly similar. Cell has more potential number crunching power but is harder to exploit and its asymmetric nature doesn't benefit it for general processing tasks like AI and physics. Microsoft also provide a much better development platform so really I think things will balance out.

So as I said; look at the games that are out and the games that are due out and buy solely based on that and don't discount the Wii. Fun > Graphics every time.

I don't think there will be a 'loser'; at least I really hope there isn't as the industry benefits from having multiple platforms.

At the moment there's a good xbox 360 community spirit going on on these forums. This isn't because we think it's a better system it's because it's been out well over a year and has a great catalogue of single and mulitplayer games (Live! really is good).

But people are starting to get Wiis and PS3s and are saying a lot of favourable things. If you've preordered a PS3 because you like what you see go for it, you won't be disappointed. If you've preordered a PS3 because you owned a PS1 / PS2 and you think you should maybe take a harder look at what the 360 has to offer. I for one am having the best gaming time of my life.

To reiterate. It's about the games. What do you want to play?

It will be even in my opinion. No console has dramatically looked better than the other, in any generation. Xbox and PS2 still looked largely the same, SNES and Mega Drive still looked largely the same.
Granted, the nintendo 64 and the Wii are different, but between MS and Sony; it's all about who can yell the loudest (and BS the most).

Pretty much equal imo, all depends on the games though.
