PS3 Games Performance Vs Xbox 360?

I currently own a PS3, very happy with it but thinking of buying a xbox360 as they are quite cheap now to see the differences for myself.

I`m mainly interested in the latest multi platform games performance between these two formats.

I hear people say that the difference isn't much anymore but i would like people who actually own a PS3 and xbox360 to give me their honest opinions on the differences between multi platform titles released in the last year on these two formats.

The difference isnt too much at the moment. But the xbox has reached its potential whilst the ps3 still has enough technology to advance. Especially with blu ray games.

The only reason I could see why you would want to buy an xbox is that all your friends play on it and not many have the ps3. Otherwise why would you downgrade?

Few games have noticable differences ie Bayonetta looks better on 360, but there is not much difference anymore. Most differences come from the online side of things, and the controller, these can be down to personal preference. As you said they are pretty cheap now, even if you find no difference in the multiplat games they're plenty of exclusives to enjoy.

The only difference really is that the Xbox 360 has a 3-4fps advantage in most multiplatform games from what Digital Foundry's analysis on Eurogamer says. I doubt many people would ever notice it.

Blu ray games? Being able to fit more data on the disk doesn't mean its going to be better. Or have I missed somthing along the way.

Im unable to notice any difference between games on either 360 or PS3 when it comes to performance. Visually maybe but chances are that is/was down to different TV's with different settings.

xbox controllers are better...

Thats personal preference.

Do some googling, theres many sites with comparison shots and things. The 360 versions are generally better graphically, not by much but it is noticeable, then there's a few too which are slightly better on ps3. I tend to get the 360 version of games simply because the PS3 controller gives me hand cramps, and trophies suck :D But PS3 has some killer exclusives to keep it for :)

Yes you have ;)

With increased size you can play a game in high definition with improved digital sound. This also lets the games designers make bigger worlds and as blu ray has the option of dual layers this could take you as high as 200gig. So much potential for future games.

I bought the Cross Battle Adapter so that alleviates the PS3 controller issue for me and I prefer trophies. Aiming for a "gold" or "platinum" trophy is better than x number of points. (IMHO.) :D

There really is very little difference between the both platforms and as said above it comes down to the online aspects, and mainly which console all your friends have. As for the controller argument, that is purely opinion. I've grown up since the late-mid nineties using Playstation controllers and to me they are perfectly fine. I've had a 360 also and the pad on that was also fine although the D-Pad is **** but the triggers are better in my opinion of course. It's all personal preference and no one pad is outright technically "better" than the other. Bloodline's comment was a bit off the cuff I think, it's not a downgrade to the 360 as there is literally nothing to choose at the moment between the two, it's more of a sidestep, why would you buy a Corsa if you have a Fiesta already is a more valid point I believe.

K1LLSW1TCH has pretty much nailed it.

There are really no differences anymore between them. The odd game (like Bayonetta) is better on one than the other, but nothing to sway someone to a particular console. As said the only major differences are the online services.

Dunno where Bloodline is getting the comment that the 360 has reached it's limit. Uncharted 2 has reported to use 90-100% of the Cell in the PS3. Blu-ray won't make much of a difference, it's the hardware that produces the image on screen that will be limited, not the media it's streamed from. Developers can put whatever they want on a blu-ray disc, but it's up to the PS3 to use it and that will be limited.

Yeah I'll go with that. Even though the Blu-Ray can hold vast amounts of extra goodies such as more uncompressed textures, massive levels etcetera it still needs the hardware to turn this data into what you see on the screen. I read somewhere that the 360 had a superior graphics card whereas the PS3's Cell CPU helps the RSX with the graphics as well as doing it's own processing. I'd say that we've already reached the ceiling for console games graphically this generation and really we aren't going upwards, just sideways. Even PC games have reached a limit at the moment and they have vastly superior graphics cards available. Most people's PC systems are still not capable of playing Crysis or GTA4 at the highest detailing so I don't think games developers are going to be able to put out amazing new graphics engines until the price of the current hardware goes down a fair bit, people just can't afford to drop £1000+ to get the most out of games such as the two mentioned.

When Naughty Dog said they were using 90-100% of the Cell, they meant that 90-100% of the SPU's were in use.

But as most people are saying, there is no difference between them really apart from controllers (Personal preference), games (personal preference) and the online experience, I've never used LIVE, but I've heard its much better than PSN.

on a final note, Ps3 has the crappest TEAM CHAT support i have ever seen on a console not to mention the quality of the audio and people speaking is utterly crap half the time i cant understand a word that people are saying...

on the other hand the xbox360 has the best teamchat support i have ever seen in a console, just as good as pc imho though the pc has more flexibility.

also you will find FPG or massive games with a lot of FMV or games with a lot of data on the disk will generally be better on ps3 due to the bluray disk format compaired to xbox360s disk support format due to the size less compression can be used ect ect ect.

Ok thanks for all your replies, some very interesting comments.

I was tempted by an Elite for £179.99 including a choice of 2 new games off a certain popular website, i may wait until towards christmas when there probably will be some better deals then.

It wasn't a case of downgrading as i am not going to sell my PS3 just wanted to see its worth getting a Xbox360 as well.

Yes in magazines i've read Bayonetta is slightly better on the Xbox360, a patch has come out that fixes the load times on PS3, are graphical and frame rate differences in Bayonetta that noticeable or are they hardly anything at all?

Any multi platform games run or look slightly better on PS3?

Dragon Age origins looks better on PS3, but at times there is a slight frame rate drop. It doesn't make the game unplayable or anything. But that game belongs on PC anyway.
