Hi Guys,
Only noticed the PS3 section there! anyway i think i may have killed my PS3 the other day and i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it...

So basically i was playing COD black ops, and i dunno what happened i think the host left just as loading was finished or something but it froze... i tried to reset it but nothin happened, so i just flipped the I/O switch at the back and then left it...

Now when i load a disc, it goes in, the circle around the clock pulses and then nothing...

I have a old fat PS3 80GB.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try using safe mode:

In the safe mode there are 6 available options - please do options 3,4, and 5:

Restart System
Restore Default Settings
Restore File System
Rebuild Database
Restore PS3 System
System Update

To activate SAFE MODE please do the following:

Step 1: Turn off PS3 by holding Power button till Power light is red.

Step 2:

Touch and hold the Power button, you will then hear the 1st beep indicating that the PS3 is powering on.
Continue to hold and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear a 2nd beep, indicating video reset.
Continue to hold and after about 5 more seconds you will hear 3rd beep, and system will power off (Power light goes red).
Release power button.

Step 3:

Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the 1st beep, again for PS3 power on.
Continue to hold and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear the 2nd beep for video reset.
Continue to hold and after 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep, at that point release power button and you will see an on-screen message instructing you to connect your controller to the PS3 with a USB cable, then press the PS button. Connect a USB cable to controller and PS3 and press PS button.
After a few seconds, you will see the Safe Mode screen with the 6 options.
Once the consumer has successfully activated safe mode, attempt using options 1 or 4. Option 1 is the light restore process which will not result in the loss of your data. Option 4 WILL result in the loss of playlist and message data, but should not result in the loss of other data. If neither of these options resolves the issue, attempt using option 3."

ok so i already did option 3... it was suggested on some other random forum... but ill give 4 and 5 a go aswell...

Sounds to me like some sort of file corruption surely i do not need to pay to get the hardware replaced?!

Thanks for the help so far

Jonathan

Ok, so i redid 3 and also did 4 and 5, now i have no trophies or friends and still the disc won't load lol

your blu ray drive has died
pay over the odds for a sony refurb with little warranty or buy a replacement drive for ~£50 and fit yourself

it cant be dead! How could the hardware be damaged by powering it of with the I/O?

the £50 option has to be a last resort... where do you even get them?

how do i update the firmware to overwrite my current hopefully corrupted firmware?

Jonathan

It probably didnt die because you powered it off, it most likely died before that and caused the lockup.... then you powered it off.

right im taking this thing apart...

gona try clean the lens and see if i can observe it spining up before i but another ps3 :(
