Tried to update the pain game last night and it says I've only got 445MB left on my hard drive.

Kind of perplexed as I have about 3 albums 50 photos and no videos on my system so how can it be full?

I did install Home but it's 3 gig out of 40!

It got me wondering how to uninstall previous game updates etc? Probably got some temp folder full of duplicate down loads somewhere i'd imagine.

How though I only have Pain, track and field and everybody's golf 2 on my system.

Isn't there any way to see if there are some remnants of previously installed and updated games (I used to have PGR) and Lost games perhaps there is 2 gig of updates sitting somewhere.)

Still can't understand where my 40 gig has gone.
:(

I've had a 60 gig lappy for 3 years now and it still has 20 gig free.

It is in the menu. On the game section there is a "Game data" section? with files that are patches and installs. You can press triangle or something to see their size and then see where all your space has gone. Actual game sizes (for PSN) games can be seen by going to their details in the Game section.

cheers RP will check tonight.

It was 1am last night when I tried to update pain and it was too much of a pain (lol) to go through all the menus...

I'll let you know.

Any demos you install also take up loads of space so you may want to delete those. Alternatively you can upgrade your hard drive but it voids your warranty

it's Jan guys can't even afford a 40€ hard drive.... :(

More importantly I'd also need a caddy and an external drive to back up my stuff so the price mounts :(

Naaaah, i managed to back mine up effectively with just a small USB stick. I just deleted all DLC and backed up my savegames/settings which ended up being less than 500meg. Formatted then redownloaded everything from the PSN, took a couple of hours mind.

I would be willing to wager you have game data hidden away somewhere that needs deleting anyway. I've got several games installed including GT5:P and GTAIV, both just under 5gig each and still have a couple of gig spare. Pain is tiny, it can't be big enough to fill your 40gig so it must be something else you haven't noticed yet.

Mine’s the same, got about 800 meg left from 60 gigs, I have 4 albums on there, a bunch of jpegs that total about 200 megs, and a couple of games/demos – PAIN, Blood Curse (taking about 10 gigs!), Warhawk and the Dead Space demo.

Looking in the game data and game saves folders shows loads of space being taken up, the former is the biggest and I think this is where the game installs go along with all the patches and content you have downloaded, but I have cleared out all the guff I don’t want an am still short on space.

New HD soon I think…

Scort.

looked at this last night I did have some saved games but largest of these is 1.5mb so hardly taking any space up?

I do have loads of Singstar content which is probably where the space went come to think of it.

Is it possible to backup singstar songs? or must I re download em all again?

I'm actually the opposite to most as I currently have over 100 songs, 300 photos, 6 dvd films, and approximately 8 PSN games (inc. Siren/Warhawk/Wipeout) on my HDD yet am amazed that I still have 20GB free out of 60 :)

Although I make a point of deleting game data/saves when I'm finished with games.

game data (installs/patches) and demos are the ones that eat up hd space so delete then when you're not gonna play then. stuff like mgs4, gta4 and dmc4 take up massive amounts of space

You have checked your game data? It has to be installs/patches of games you've played previously. I can't imagine Singstar songs taking up that much unless you've downloaded absolutely loads of songs.

I have loads of free space on mine and have a bunch of PSN games and demos on it as well as quite a few Singstar songs and Home.

After another look last night I found the following like you all said...

Duh stupid me.

Prologue 6.5 GIG
Lost 3.8 GIG(hangs head in shame it was a present honest guv. :( )
Oblivion (I still have this game but rarely play it. Not enough to warrant 7.5 GIG of hard drive space... :D )

So I now have nearly 1/2 my 40 gig back.

Actually forgot that the games install to hard drive for faster loading....

/facepalm
