Ps3 HDD corrupted

Anyone know how I can solve this

Got a slim ps3 bought in Nov 2009. Haven't used it since I finished GoW3, but it gets used nearly everyday for the iPlayer by others in the house. Someone wanted to watch something on itvplayer and it was just a white page so I tried clearing cache/cookies etc and it just froze up when I hit delete. I couldn't turn it off so I pulled the plug. Turning it back on says the system must be restored, but it always gets to about 48% then loops and says it must be restored and starts over again. Done this so far about 8 times and cannot get it to progress.

Do I need to remove the HDD and format it on my PC or something?

Follow these instructions to start the console in recovery mode:

Then try the Restore File System and Rebuild Database options.

Also worth mentioning that if it ever locks up again, you should be able to shut the console down (or restart it) by holding the power button.

Ah cheers, wish I heard this sooner as I might've been able to save my stuff, had loads of photos and videos of the family on it

I booted into safe mode and got to the XMBC? menus and there went to fully format my HDD but it just crashed now it only shows a black screen when I switch it on and tells me to insert storage device with FW 3.55 or higher to update and repair system files. I've put 3.55 FW on a usb stick and hit start+select but it just says it couldn't find any update files...

Any help?
