ps3 hdd swap

can sombody talk me though replacing a ps3 slim hdd

have taken current drive out and formatted
did not back anything up form the old drive

i have a new drive to go in but am unsure how to go about this

is it just a case of downloading system upadte software 3.01
and pressing the start and ps3 keys?

as i cannot seem to get it to work


help!

have you re-connected the controller via usb to re sync it, im sure thats where i made a mistake and though my ps3 had broke .

you shouldnt need to redownload firmware as i believe thats in the systems memory rather than on the HDD

Some PS3 slims (slim launch) came pre-loaded with 2.8. In order to get the console working you had to download the 3.0 update.

1. Put it on the USB drive under the PS3 > UPDATE directory
2. Hold "start" on the controller when you turn on the console
3. Wait

I updated my PS3 to v2.8 (I think) when I had the 40gb drive in. When I put the 250gb drive I got a message saying insert media with v2.8 or later firmware. So it must install somewhere else as well as the HDD. I did as above and downloaded it to a USB stick. Pressed 'X' and that was it.
