hi

i own a 40gig ps3 and im reading up about changing the hardrive to something bigger, but im not sure if i need to , if i only use it for games and blu-ray should 40gig be enough ?

if i download demos i normally delete them after ive tested them , its just im unsure how much memory saved games take up is it a lot?

is it possible to upgrade in the future and transfer all data to the new hdd

cheers

40gb will last you a long time mate, especially if you only play games and watch movies. You'll never need to upgrade if you delete demo's after you've tested them.

I dont think you can transfer data from one hdd to the next. Dont hold me to that cause im not sure cause i dont have a PS3...yet :D. If you only play games and blu-ray and delete demos when you've played them, then i think 40GB is fine for you. Its only worth the upgrade if you constantly download HD content, keep demos and are wanting to use the PVR when it comes out.

thats the thing im unsure if in the future i might use the space so im thinking would it be better to upgrade now while ive got little data on my ps3 because its new?

If you've got an external USB2 HDD formatted as FAT32, you can "back up" your PS3. Then you can put a new HDD in and restore everything as it was. I'd say it was worth an upgrade - I've almost filled 250GB as I have all my videos stored internally. It's a lovely little media centre. If you plan on getting the PVR tuner thing then you'll need lots of disc space to record all the TV programmes.

i have'nt got an external hdd to back up my data , so i might wait until i feel i really need more space if its easy to do then for me theres no rush

cheers

hi

i just saw this in the ps3 sticky does this mean i dont need any external hdd for doing a backup if the ps3 does it? -

"Before you replace your drive back up all the data on the PS3 you require, all the settings, updates, User ID’s and passwords etc are saved on internal flash. You can use the System backup in the settings tab on the XMB, It backs up PS3 saved games, photos, and any unprotected music and videos."

cheers

What it means is that all the settings are saved on the PS3 internally, the system backup backups the saved games DL videos/photos/music etc you have saved on your HDD to an external HDD or USB key. Its quite a big file so USB key may be to small to use, paid for PSN games have to be re-downloaded for DRM purposes. I just copied my save games across to a USB when i did mine so i didnt have to use an external drive
