ps3 hdmi glitch

On the ps3 home screen everything was fine, loaded up little big planet and when it loaded up the next screen everything was distorted, like a bad TV signal.

White patch on left side of monitor, horizontal lining, the black and grey fuzz, some random colour distortion around images on the screen. Flick my monitor into a different input and back again and it sorted itself.

Something to be worried?

Also while I'm here I've also had a couple of freezes while playing GT5. Any idea why?

when you go into display settings, have you checked all the boxes?

i have issues sometimes if only 1080P is selected.

so select 720P and 1080i also, etc

yeah, sure they're all selected. It was just this once.

Also I keep dropping off wireless. I had a few 80710723errors when trying to update and wireless is showing at 75% where ps3 is currently sitting. Not enough signal strength or an other issue somewhere else?

could be your ISP, modem or router.

for example my connection with virgin media has been amazing for 10+ years, but for the past few days i have also had DC issues, i have set up a broadband monitor to check my connection

that is a live graph of my connection, as you can see average latency is around 20 ms which is good, but the maximum latency at times jumps up to 60 ms throughout the day, a few days ago it was jumping to over 100ms which was causing me issues.

set up a broadband monitor on your connection to diagnose any issues you may be having, it is free to do and takes all of 5 minutes to setup. it's so simple a 5 year old could do it. you just tick a couple of boxes and that's it.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

that is the page to do it from but you need to register first.

my problems have now stopped, but if they happen again, i will take a snapshot of the graph, phone virgin, complain and email the graph to them to see, they should hopefully then send an engineer out or discount my bill or both.

what modem and router are you using? also is anyone else using the connection whilst you are? for example, my brother and my dad hog my connection a lot during the day for downloading movies.

Nope, only me. If parents are on it's email/basic internet stuff.

I'm virgin media, will need to check the router though.

im in scotland too mate and also with virgin media, it could be you are having the same issues i have been having ;).

i think im on the kirkintilloch exchange.

do you know what one you are on?

set up a broadband monitor as i have above, it may help you diagnose the issues, mine have now gotten a lot better, since my maximum latency average has gone down.

The speed/quality of your Internet connection shouldn't determine whether you can connect to your router or not as that's a local network and nothing to do with the Internet connection. If you're only getting a low percentage on the signal strength then it could be the positioning of your PS3/router or one of the two could be faulty.

As you've had other problems with the PS3 I'd be more inclined to suggest that the PS3 might be a bit dodgy? You could always try another router and see if that works, or if it's got an external aerial stick a Pringles tin over it to boost the signal a little bit. :D

As for the connection dropping off and getting PSN errors that's obviously gonna be something to do with your Internet connection and not necessarily just the router/console. You could try connecting to the router with an ethernet cable to see if it makes any difference in regards to the stability, all that graph really seems to show is your latency which won't matter a huge deal when you're just downloading updates and the like, you'll notice high pings in gaming more than anything I'd imagine.

Cheers. Still not sure how I can sort the problem effectively. I could plug in a wire but would constantly mean unplugging it in and out of my computer.

I think the HDMI glitch may be my monitor, as when ps3 stops the signal when switching from the home screen to game screen the monitor briefly enters "power saving mode" as if there's no signal. So the quick on and off may be the problem there, it's only happened once since.

I've been playing little big planet, but only play can be hit and miss due to the lag.

Got a couple of error codes from playing LBP: 0x80710092 and 8002AD23.

Could it be a router issue? Apart from going out to buy one I've got no idea how to test.Got a netgear wnr834Bv2

Thinking about what i did at uni (living in unite halls so lifewire TV didnt work through a network) I have my own mini router...could I connect the router to my internet connection and then use two hard-wired ones from the same connection. So it goes:
router>router>PC+PS3
or how I had it set up in halls
router>PC>router (then used the wireless from that for other gadgets but instead it would be wired PS3)

On a slightly related not and a rant, can't seem to log into the router tonight. I've tried all the passwords and I'm sure I'm using the correct wireless key, just can't get in!

Have you tried resetting your router via the software? I think for Netgear the address is 192.168.0.1 and unless you changed it the username is usually admin and the password is simply password. I might be wrong but I think on the left side of the page there's a load of options, one of them says Maintenance and underneath Maintenance there's an option that says Diagnostics. Click on that and then it should open another page with a button that says reboot or something similar, you could try that as turning it off via the power/unplugging isn't going to properly reboot the router and can lead to unstable connections or poor speeds.

To resolve the error 8002AD23 you could try disabling Media Sharing, then use the PS3 for a few days and see if the stability improves. You can disable it by doing this:
  • Settings > Network Settings > Media Server Connection > Disable

Is the router fine for using other things? Browsing the Internet on your phone over WiFi etc?

Yup, router is fine for everything else. I haven't been on the wifi recently (hp touchpad apart from downloading an update when I checked for angry birds space) but last week it was all good. Wired is fine as I can hope off the ps3 and straight onto the PC.

The password is different and I logged in earlier in the week, and updated the firmware, but don't think that has had much of a difference. It's just not accepting anything I think the password is!

You mean the password for accessing the router software page, or the WEP/WPA key? If it's the former then the only way you'll gain access that I know of is to reset the router to factory settings using the pinhole in the back. Of course you'll have to re-input all of your credentials and basically set the router up as if it was brand new.

I'd say that if the router works perfectly well with other things then it isn't the router that's at fault. Lots of people who have issues seem to set up a DMZ and assign their Playstation a static IP address, that's something you could possibly try. :)

I meant the password for the router software page....and just got in!

I think I may be best setting the static IP address. I don't see a diagnostic setting, only one is return to factory. I have set some setting, going by the info guide, from 56Mps to 130Mps....think I have the accronym totally wrong, but the guide was saying it standard is 130.
