Hi, never had anything like this happen but here we go. My brother has got the 40gb PS3 and has had it for approx 2yrs always using the HDMI connection with no issues until today.

When he switches the PS3 on there is no signal reaching the TV (using HDMI), I tried it on a different TV and got Mode Not Supported. I have tried a couple of different HDMI cables with same result. I know the HDMI cable is not the cause as I tried the HDMI cable on my PS3 and works fine.

Funnily enough he is now using the multi scart AV (I think its called) connection and thats fine, signal gets through to the TV obviously the picture quality is not that good but there you go. Through trial and error this seems to be a problem with the PS3 itself, possibly the HDMI port on the PS3.

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like the PS3 reset it's setting's (holding the power button to long will do this).

Try plugging the HDMI cable is as well and then select it in settings and see if it gives you a display.

I had the same problem not too long ago, randomly started and just worked again after a few weeks! Verry odd indeed.

I tried all the resets and even hard drive removal, nothing worked!

i had this exact problem with my launch day ps3 slim
it stopped outputting via hdmi after a day or two yet component worked fine and the hdmi cable worked fine with my 40gb phat
i took it back for a replacement which has had no problems

double check with another hdmi cable then if its still playing up pick up a compenent cable (around £6-£10 second hand)

I had a similar problem. You can press and hold the power button (from off) for 5 secs until you hear a second beep, if the display then works, just choose your settings and away you go.

That didnt work for me as my TV's HDMI handshake went wonky, I had to unplug it at the cord and then it worked perfectly.
