Hi there, please can you give me some advice, I didnt know what section to post this under so hopefully I made the right choice. Basically I dont really know what am doing, but I have a brand new PC, a monitor that says HD ready, a graphics card which says it has HDMI and a PS3 with a HDMI cable.

My graphics card came with this little yellow adaptor, and you can plug this adapter into my graphics card and then plug the HDMI cable from the PS3 into that graphics card, so I was wondering if I could output the PS3, through my graphics card so I could view the picture more clearly on my HD Ready monitor better then a standard TV. I also tried plugged the adapter that came from my graphics card straight into my monitor and plugged the HDMI cable into that, I then went into setup and output display options on the PS3 and tried both ways but still couldnt seem to get a picture outputted from the PS3 to the monitor.

So I was wondering if what I'm trying to do is possible or not?

Monitor: SyncMaster 205BW
Graphics card: Zotac GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512mb PCI-Express +Water Cooling

Here's a picture, you can see the yellow adapter I'm talking about here:

And the back of my monitor you can see here:

Thanks in advance.

Well it goes like this, PS3 to DVI adapter, and then DVI adapter plugged into monitor, but also tried graphics card, but it just has a black screen and doesnt seem to do anything?

Have you got a button on your monitor to cycle inputs? Make sure the PS3 is fully on and cycle them to see if you can get a picture.

Also, you won't get any sound from the monitor, you will need an external speaker system for the PS3.

Yeah I have a button to cycle inputs on the monitor but when I press it, it does the cycle but doesnt seem to work, screen just goes black.

Sound isnt a problem because I have a projector and sound drive bay with my sound card in the PC and the sound just comes out of my PC speakers for xbox and PS3, it that side of things work fine, I can play on both consoles with sound and picture through projector and PC speakers and the xbox outputs through my monitor also but not with HDMI, it outputs with some other type of connector, not sure what its called.

Anyways, I guess it cant be done, not sure, maybe the monitor doesnt support HDMI and I thought it did?

What about plugging the ps3 into my graphics card though, would that do anything or is that stupid?

Can anyone tell me if my monitor can do this or if it doesnt support it?

Thanks in advance.

The outputs on a Gcard are what they say, OUTputs.

Some cards have an S-Video in, and you can get a device that plugs in through USB that has the 3-prong connectors (Video, Left Audio, Right Audio) that is made for turning VHS into DVD, so you could grab one of them and just play PS3 through it instead.

Not sure if this is what you are asking, but if you are transferring your PS3 from an S-Video cable to HDMI then you have to reset for this configuration:

1. Connect PS3 directly to monitor with HDMI cable
2. Hold Power button on PS3 until you hear 3 beeps
3. Power up and hopefully it should work.

I currently have a pc3 connected to a pc monitor via a HDMI to DVI cable. All you may need to do is hold the power button on the ps3 so it restarts and detects the graphics output then it should all be working.

Are you sure that your monitors DVI is DVI-D (I think) if it is regular DVI like for example my 24" DGM it won't work, it has to be like the Dell monitor I have or it won't display.

I have this problem i have a 19 inch samsung.I need to get a hdmi to dvi convertor to connect my ps3 to my monitor and some external speakers for it.I think my monitor ois HDCP so that shouldnt be a problem.Hope that works anyway :)

Hang on, why dont you just get an HDMI switch for your monitor if it doesnt have enough inputs?

Yeah, just had a quick search, and a HDMI/DVI switch seems like the perfect idea. 2 inputs, one output, and a button that you can just place underneath your monitor to switch between them.
