Hi Guys,

I bought a new HDMI cable the other day, after my 18 month old son ragged the other cable out and sat on the floor chewing it, As it turns out the cable was completley stuffed and im able to use my beloved PS3 once again...

Problem is its sensitive now, have to fiddle with the cable at the back to get the picture to either come on or to stop blacking out... so obviously some damage has been done to the HDMI slot!

Is it easy/cheap to get fixed? my PS3 is one of the early models so well out of warranty etc...

Was it a cheapo HDMI cable you bought? I used to have a really cheap one and I would have to fiddle with it to get the picture to come on!

the cable you bought is poor quality

buy another and see if you can get a refund on that one. Recommend this one

Linx 1.2 Metre Luxury 24k Gold Plated HDMI Cable

It can be had for £8 free postage from a jersey based on-line store and it feels as well made as some of the £60 cables you'll find in specialist home cinema stores. Its a really good fit and fully braided as well with gold plated contacts. You'll know what i mean you hold it.

Thanks guys, the cable was one of those semi-official PS3 HDMI cable's from ASDA, was bought simply to test...

The biggest issue with cheap HDMI cables, not picture quality but being really poorly made. Do you still have the old broken HDMI cable? Try the good end of it and see how snugly it fits compared to the new one. I picked up a 2m gold plated cable for £5 from pound stretcher and have no complaints. Quality was just as good as the Philips one I got from work.

Does it really make an obvious improvement having the more expensive/gold plated cables? I've always bought cables for no more than a fiver

well i brought a tecknics one from tesco for £12 gold plated etc, my dad right in to his home cinema thing has got two £80 hdmi cables. and on his tv the diffrence is very noticeable. i was almost shocked with the amount of fuzziness had gone and more detail could be noticed, but then this is on a 50" tv, ive got a simple 30" lcd screen and that cheap cable does me fine. but the bigger the tv the better the hdmi cable needs to be i suppose!

no difference in PQ

its just that £8 one i linked feels more like £60 it feels that well made. The braiding on it is beautifully neat and the connectors feel chunky and well made. For £3 extra (inc. free postage after all) i think its worth it as the fit is perfect and really tight.

the HDMI cable has nothing to do with it

HDMI is digital. It either works or it doesnt. Issues with poorer cables will be poor physical construction (poor fit as in the OPs case, falling apart etc..) or the cable will take a long time to "handshake" with Blu Ray players (that grey fuzzy screen you get when you first turn it on) cheap cables will take noticably longer to do this and leave you with a fuzzy screen for 10 seconds +

Any difference in picture quality is the result of a good TV or better source, not the cable. It carries a digital signal, that signal either cant be understood by the source ( ie displays a black screen) or it arrives. Theres nothing inbetween, not like the old analogue sources of old ...

Not being funny, but you and your old man are naive. Hey, do you want to buy these magic beans?
