Just bought a PS3 for the wee lads Xmas :)

To play on a HDTV 1080p....is the PS3 HDMI cable just a standrd HDMI-HDMI cable...or is it something specific for the PS3.

i.e..can I go and buy a standard HDMI cable from somewhere local like competitor A..instead of ordering a PS3 one form competitor B or similar.

Excuse my stupidness...but just wanting to check before I go and order.

Cheers:)

It requires a standard HDMI cable, which you can buy for a couple of quid if you look around on the net.

I'm using a standard hdmi cable for 1080p with my ps3.
Shame there are only a few 1080p games out as it doesn't upscale 720p games to 1080p :(

I get my HDMI cables from ukhdmi - never spend more than a £10 unless you were looking to do a long run (>5m)

Anything under a £10 is gonna either work or not...

It does with a lot of games. For some others you can force it by disabling 720p.

Now I didnt know that - thanks dbmzk1 - only probs is that Ill have to re-enable it for PS1/PS2 titles...

I never get why people make such a big fuss over consoles upscaling games to 1080p. On any half decent television the scaler chip built in is as good at upscaling as the consoles are capable of, so feeding in a 720p image will end up looking just as good as a 720p image upscaled to 1080p by the console.

If you are using a monitor i can understand however as the scaler chip in the 360 is good for dealing with funky resolutions than 16:10 monitors typically use, also you tend to find most monitors have an inferior scaler chips when compared to HDTVs, as HDTVs are designed with upscaling standard definition sources in mind.
