The open public beta of Sony's intriguing Home online network service will now not launch until autumn.

Sony president and group CEO, Kazuo Hirai, admitted: "We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today."

And then comes Hirai's PR-ing: "Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PlayStation Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."

I guess after the MGS/Konami mess up it's probably not a bad thing!

Delayed to coincide with the release of Duke Nukem Forever? ;)

EDIT: Jesus, thats not even the real 'release' date, thats just a beta? :/

More delays can only be good really. It's obvious from the myriad of delays that Sony wants it to be a really good addition to the software.

You guys really do argue using extreme views and examples. Using 'oh delayed forever = perfect' 'delayed for 10 years = better than everything else', there's never inbetween, like logical delays for about a year overall, which many games have been subjected to as equally as Home. (need I mention Half Life 2?)

Seriously. You know it's just common sense that longer development periods is usually beneficial. You're just arguing because you love doing so. It's getting irritating as ****.
