I read an article in this months 'PLAY' magazine about PS3 Home, (A 3D version of 360's community, where you can wonder about and join groups of people and play games with them etc, kind of like a VR world, looked quite impressive from what i've seen so far, however, as there's so much work going into it, and being honest i've not read a lot into it, do you think that PSN might charge a subscription to use it (like 360's network)?, will it work and are you looking forward to it? Also do you know anything more about it as what i've posted in this thread is all i know about it tbh.

(if this is old news, please forgive, i've only just joined the PS3 party :))

I dont think they will charge for it tbh and I havent heard anything about subscription fees. I think advertising will be very efficent within Home. VR worlds are ideal for product placement (a v.large array of goods can be marketed mimicking thier RL counterparts for example). I'd imagine Sony and probably a load of 3rd party companies will have a number of advertising contracts within Home.

if you search youtube theres a few beta videos floating about, it looks ok i guess but a bit of fad, that get boring quickly i reckon.

if they charge, and it works well i wont mind aslong as it isnt to much.

2.40 is due soon.

Call me pessimistic but I don't think 2.40 is going to be out till at least 2 weeks into July.

I do want it to come out soon though. I think everyone I've talked to said they'd benefit from the in-game XM :) I'm thinking Home might be linked in to that as well, so like you can access that whilst playing a game.

just been reading a little more (from what info is about) about it, apparently, you'll get your own apartment within home, to decorate as you like, advertising will be big on there, along with major developers showcasing their stuff, there will be a cinema showing blu-ray movies which you can watch in full screen (to compete with 360's movie jobbie), there are no plans for sony to charge for 'Home', which can only be a good thing. However, the thing keeps on getting delayed, with closed betas due, followed by open betas then release expected in Autumn, which will be no doubt delayed again. Maybe sony should have developed a basic online community to run alongside the development of Home to compete to some extent with 360 online.

Also, as i said i'm new to the PS3 party, so i didn't know it has been in development since 2005 :O

The public Beta was supposed to be LAST April, so a year late even with a beta, i have lost interest. Much like KZ2, while blows me away at the same time, a game in development for so long is starting to lose my interest too.

joking arent you. the sims is a big fad and did get boring quickly but theres allot more "casual gamers" than the sort of gamers on this forum. and they absolutley LOVE stuff like the sims/home.

people will lap it up.

mate was/is on the beta and apart from been able to walk into a games room and play pool etc with people he got bored straight away. but hes not the sort of gamer its aimed at.

Duke Nukem Forever made me immune to 'interest fatigue'.

Looks cool, aslong as it's a free download, Which i'm under the impression it is. I'll be happy to play with it. Supposed to come with lots of additions to games.

For instance, The ability to walk around game worlds, in parties. But without the enemies, Just take in the scenery, etc.

Also, Trophies (The Achievement equivalent) Comes with home, Which will be nice also

I believe it to be free but they will charge you for the cool looking hat that none of your mates of got, or the cool sofa that goes with your wallpaper in your apartment.

Thats the way I've always looked at it anyway.

I'm interested to see it all in action but I'm doubtful if I will actually use it for more than a week.

But if its free who cares? Women and kids will lap this kinda thing up!

By the way this should not be compared to Live! as it is aiming for something completely different.

Ok, i'm actually a little bit obsessed with Home, not because it's my cup of tea, more that it's an interesting turn in the evolution of the online console concept. What i know is that it is free and all its features will be too. What isn't free however is clothes and decorations for your apartment, basically every feature is available but if you're obsessed you'll spend a couple of quid jazzing up your avatar, the costs incurred to Sony by home will be covered by advertising.

Another interesting thing of note is that an interview with naughty dog indicated achievements in games will carry on into home, one thing they hinted at was a certain number of achievements allowed Home users to wear a naughty dog t-shirt, much like the one worn in drakes fortune once a certain number of achievement points were obtained. Metal gear solid bandanna anyone?

Conceptually it's very interesting, whether it will actually work we'll have to see. I think it could very cool though.

Sony should have got the basics down first instead of spending time on Home though. In game XMB should have been there at launch but at least it's now coming out very soon.

 mid July is only three weeks away - would you not count that as soon???

I want my avatar to be dressed like a harry ramp tbh and I would love my appartment to be decorated with old tea chests and broken pallets :D
