pS3 in a week, what do i need?

hey, i signed up to a phone contract about a month ago with a free ps3 into the bargain, it's due for delivery next week but i was wondering if there's anything extra i need to pick up... does it come with the hdmi cable? are there any nifty play and charge kits or anything like that?

Just bought myself a 37 inch toshiba to enjoy it on as i'll be using the blu ray player quite a bit, maybe a media remote or something like that?

Oh, also games, RFOM, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter sound ok? anything fantastic out that i've missed (already got oblivion on 360 and pc and not into f1 games)

Is the Toshiba HDMI, mate? If so you'll need a cable for it.

Media remote would be a good addition too like you say apart from that your sorted.
 
you will need to buy a hdmi cable if you want to use one

dont need a play and charge kit , it comes with a usb cable that you can play and charge with (albeit possibly too short for some people )


cant go wrong with rfom and motorstorm ( ive never played v fighter )

i dont see the need for a remote as i find the wireless pad does the job , id see how you get along with it before splashing out on the blu ray remote.
 
Hi, the PS3 (unless specified in package deal) doesnt come with a HDMI cable so I would suggest you buy one to go with the nice tv! `

You get 1 controller with a play and chargekit (usb cable), if you are planning to watch a lot of blueray movies a remote wouldnt hurt (I still use my game controller)

I did make a purchase of a logitech media keyboard (especially for PS3) which is wireless and writing this post from it at this moment ;P) thats if you plan to use the browser much...

As for games I couldnt tell you once you get the console you can download a lot of content from the PS3 using playstation store....why not try game demo's before buying??

Yeah, the PlayStation store gives a large range of demos for you to try but most people own MS and RFOM.
 
Where on earth do you get a free PS3 on contract for a non-ripoff price? Only ones i've seen are for example £25/month for 60 mins and 500 texts, free PS3 and a nokia phone that costs £500 thus negating the free PS3 offer.
 
I wasn't into F1 games either until I played the F1 demo, definately get downloading all the demos as soon as it arrives!

All you need realy as mentioned is the HDMI cable, and a second sixaxis wireless controller for 2-player. Remote is upto you but not vital.

If you never had a PS2 like me, start collecting the classics. Every one I've tried so far works on the PS3 and they look good aswel. I've picked up 11 games so far, all brand new and one for as cheap as 99p. :)

There are loads of £35p/m for 18 month contracts around with free PS3/Xbox360.
 
i work for a phone company so i'm entitled to retailer discount, 40% off contracts and i'm also getting something paid for me towards it at work as i'm using it for work purposes. tbh, if you were paying full price then it would be an absolute rip off but for what's actually leaving my account then it's ok (£75/mth contract paying just over £30)

good suggestions guys, the tv does have hdmi so i'll pick up a cable this week, i'll also probably stick to the controller for blu ray for now but that might change soon as i will be using the ps3 as a media centre for the family so they may not get on with controller.

Also very good call on the ps2 games, i pretty much skipped last gen, had a gc but only had about 5 games for it.(heh, this gen so far i've got the 360, wii, ps3 on the way, ds lite and i'm thinking of getting a psp! the ridiculous thing is i don't play them that much, i'm just like a magpie having to collect the shiny new toys.) I'm thinking ps2 games, god of wars? shadow of the colossus? maybe ff12?

You have to get God of War 1 and or 2 for it if you havent played many PS2 games they're both Excellent games . Make sure you sign up for a US account to get the Ninja Gaiden Sigma Demo, plenty of info on the web and on here to show you how to set up different accounts. You should be able to download some PS1 games as off this week on the UK store, some are quite fun if look a bit dated now. I liked FF12 its a bit marmite for some but i thought it was fantastic i enjoyed the new combat and gambit system, the story not as good as some of the FF series, but its your choice. Virtua fighter is good but i'd prob get Tekken 5 DR from the PS store its a bout £6 i think and its great!
 
If you want to play n charge you might find the included cable a tad too short. I bought a 5M USB cable from the bay for about a fiver (inc' postage) and it works a treat ;)
 
If your PS3 is going to be placed vertically I can recommend the 4Gamers vertical stand with USB Hub, it even lights up blue :D

The Bluetooth remote is excellent, I find myself using that more than the PS3 controller, especially if your going to be using it for watching films often.

I wouldnt buy any games to start with, I would nab all the demos from the PStore and see which ones you like, Get both Tekken and GT-HD, they are both fantastic.

Other than that, enjoy it, you've probably noticed a lot of negative vibes on these forums regarding the PS3, but I absolutely love mine!

Quoted for truth, the best £6.99 I've spent for quite some time, and really looking forward to the being able to purchase the next updated version with online versus and practice modes (Which if you own the current version you'll get a knock down price) :D
