PS3 issues - urgent help please!

Hi guys,

I have an offer to buy a 1st gen PS3 for £25. It's the one that can play PS1 games. It has had a HDD upgrade (not sure to what).

Basically, it was advertised as no video output via HDMI... After a few texts, this is what I have established...

These are the messages he last sent to me:

Ok no cables and it does power on but noticed it only powers off buy the switch at the back you used to torn off buy a touch pad

Then another message:

There is a finger touch pad to turn the ps3 om and off the colour changes red for of green is on the colours are fine some ps3 s get a yellow light of death like the xbox rind of death

I'm not sure what to make of this... That is word for word, letter for letter, not sure what he is trying to say.

Any ideas? Worth the £25 to try and fix?

I think what he is saying is the lights are normal, green on, and red for off. It doesn't have the YLOD...

Could this simply be a HDMI/video reset simply by holding the power down or what ever it is? Or is it going to be a bit more involved simply because he can't turn it off using the touch button?

No point man, spend a little more and maybe you could get the slim version. More reliable as well.

Hmmm

Okies, will have to wait until next month then. I'm being tight lol.

Cheapest slim I can find working is still a lot more than £25 though.

I hope so, I'm thinking it might be better to wait until January when all the little kids are selling their PS3's after mummy bought them PS4's

I'd go with a more reliable model too, there've been several going on the MM for very good prices the past few days alone. I think all models of the PS3 are backwards compatible with PS1 games too (whether that includes all games, I don't know) so that shouldn't matter with the newer models unless it's PS2 games you're wanting.

Avoid like the plague unless you can fix yourself. My 60gb original is still going strong, but I had a 40gb as well and that went pete tong after a while, repaired it and it lasted another year before blinking out for the last time.
When I get a PS4, I will be getting rid of my PS3
