Hi! Just got myself a PS3 and I connected it up to my 24" HP w2408h monitor via HDMI and noticed how jaggy the graphics were, both in Tekken 6 and Gran Turismo 5. I did the usual setup wizard with the PS3, it said it was OK to handle 720p and 1080p... I also set my monitor to stretch based on aspect ratio, so Tekken 6 720p would fill the whole screen....

But even GT5 looked flat... Is my monitor just bad for the PS3... I saw a PS3 hooked up to a proper 32" LCD TV and I'm certain it looked 50x better than mine... my monitor is no good for this?

Turn off that and set it to 1:1.

Also remember you're normally closer to a monitor than a tv.

+1 GT5 looks much better on my 40 Inch samsung than it does on my 24inch LED monitor it's because your probably 2 feet away from your monitor but 8 feet away from your TV. Try backing away from your monitor and seeing if it seems better.

^^^This TBH.

Never, ever, ever stretch the picture because even though it'll fill the screen it always makes the picture quality worse. Plus even if you have a couple of black bars on screen after plating for a couple of minutes you won't even notice them.

i was wondering if GT5 is supposed to be 1080P why do you have to expand the box when you first play the game???

I'm guessing it's in case people are running on a CRT so that they can compensate for overscan, and losing detail off the edge of the screen.

I've seen a similar thing on a few titles this year. God of War Collection for instance - at default on my LCD TV, there's a bit of a border around the edge of the screen unless you enable the "full screen" option in the game (same with GT5 until you alter the image to fill the screen). However, on a friends CRT, the image fills the screen without enabling that option.

As for the OP, I've had 2 PS3s here playing Read Dead Redemption, one on my monitor (28", 16:10 stretched, can't enable 1:1) and one on my TV (42", 16:9) and the image looks much better on the TV.

Was playing uncharted 2 at the weekend on my new telly and noticed this, last time I played it was on my 32 inch sammie and it looked great turned the res down from 1080p to 720p on the ps3 and the graphics were better, when it was set to 1080p it looked bloody awful with blocks and grain

Doesnt help that those two games are known for being on the jaggy side either ! Play SF4 as apose to Tekken for less jaggies and Burnout over GT, that is of course if its only the jaggies you want to get rid of.. Though SF4 is a better game than Tekken, it is debatable if Burnout is as good as GT5... Certainly prettier though.

How do you change the mode, my Plasma just refelcts 1080P when the xmb is on and then swaps to the mode that the game is on. Thought the whole lot was autodetected by the ps3 and outputs the available resolution to the screen?
