PS3 Launch Day Sales Record [UK]

Personally I'm rather impressed that they have managed to sell 165,000 units in the first few days and the fact that people still keep putting them down is ridiculous. They even managed to sell over 20k in Australia. The X360 sold 30k at launch and the Wii sold 32k. So not everywhere did they post high sales.

The whole 'X360 / Wii would have sold more units if they were available' thing is silly. If sony had released it in November everyone would have moaned that there was not enough units, blah, blah, blah. So what do Sony do?
They wait a few months (and yes i know the configuration is different) to build up stock, sell a large number of units on release and people are still trying to put them down. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.......

Selling 165k units at the price it is, is very impressive, especially at this time of year. I don't own any of the next gen systems yet and don't intend to until Christmas when things have settled down games wise. I did nearly get a Wii but I feel that most of its sales are driven by hype and its lack of availability. Of the few people i know with one the novelty wore off rather soon but it is still fun.

Oh and Resistance: Fall of man and Motorstorm hits the top of the software charts. Though this is not really surprising when bundled at launch time.

*Awaits total European sales figures*

According to chart track the top 3 games was all PS3 with RFOM, Motorstorm and F1, think it was the only nextgen system to do this on release. Take a look http://www.charttrack.co.uk/?i=429&s=1111

yeah but thats because there the only 3 worth half-owning ;) :p

360 had a much better launch lineup so consumers had more choice

Hi,

This week there are 6 PS3 titles in the all formats top 10.

Also PS3 had 22 launch titles in this country. I think the 360 actually had closer to 10 (can't find exact list atm).

You have to give credit where credit's due. They sold loads of consoles, they sold loads of games, they broke some record. This week they get the glory. End of, surely?

Edit also bear in mind the games sales were counted from 17/03/07 to 24/03/07. So in 2 day the ps3 games hijacked the sales charts.

(IMO) as far as the launch games on the 360 went PGR3 was the only game worth having at that time, Follwed closely by COD2

And like rp2000 said there wernt that many to chose from anyway.

The 360 had 18 titles for release
Perfect Dark made No.12 and Project Gotham Racing 3 made No.16 in the all format chart following its release

Although the software chart may have been a little more competitive at that time of year.

Impressive! Bravo to Sony. Am glad to see so many ebay sellers got it wrong and made losses for the first time (hopefully a huge one!). Buying out all the available 360/wii stocks and leave the genuine gamers/buyers having to pay loads over the RRP for one.

Well done to Sony

..

I actually preferred Condemned to COD2, but maybe that's just me.

So the fact the PS3 has sold 160k + consoles at launch weekend is great. (if there had been as many wiis and 360s available I am sure they would have done the same).

At any rate, thats the Hard Core gamers, Playstsion fans and ebay speculators taken care of.

But will they shift the rest or how many will they shift over the next few months.

But the biggest question of all is who cares??? I don't have shares in the company or subsiduries, does anyone here actually directly benefit appart from getting to play a few games? :o

And I thought Kameo was a fantastic fun little game too.

But have to agree with rp2000 Sony have done well in ol' blighty this week. Credit where credit is due.

How do you make an item sell faster ? Have Limited Stock. Then that forces people who are in two mind weather buy one or not to Buy one incase they miss out.

I don't see why people our geting there nickers in a twist. 360 sold very well.
PS3 Broke Sales records wich means it also doing very well... End Of story

How could i forget the Wii. It did realy realy realy well :)

Good news for us Gammers.

Little bit more gamer than fanboi is needed round here

Thats one theory the other one, which some analysts think happened over the holiday period in the states was because of the low availability of the PS3 and the Wii the xbox360 sales increased. As people who wanted a new console either had to wait an indeterminate amount of time or buy a Xbox360 with prob its most anticipated game, gears of war, there and then. If my son/daughter wanted a next gen console for Christmas, i only had one option at the time.

Bravo to Sony, they've done well to shift a half a grand console, in March, with excellent competition. It most certainly is credit where credit is due. :)

I will say, I hadn't gave two ****s about the PS3 till I saw one, and it's been released... now I feel tempted. Seems like it could be something special, something I've never felt the 360 to be. I dunno! :)

Thats very much how i felt. Everytime i saw/used the 360 it never sparked anything as being special (from a non gaming point of view), saw the PS3 for the first time the other day and thought....ohh, shiny I want one. :D

Sony aren't gonna win at the end of the day...

Getting bashed for not being 'sold-out' and would have got bashed if they didn't produce enough after 3 months.

Everyone is talking about the PS3 launch regardless of if it is good or bad, so as long as people are talking about it (the PS3) i'd say its a successful launch and a job well done.

Any publicity is better than none. :)
