Now that they have just released Ubuntu for PS3. If i install it on my PS3 and run F@H through Ubuntu should i expect a speed increase over the standard PS3 F@H client?

Surely the Ubuntu option would make full use of the cells/cores and the PPD wouldn't be capped against the PS3 as the current PPD are on the standard client?

No. The client won't run on it for a start since the architecture is PPC, and Linux clients only exist for x86 and x86_64. Plus, Linux on a PS3 doesn't provide you with access to the SPE units which are what give the PS3 client its performance.

If a PPC client existed for Linux, it's performance on a PS3 would be similar to that of a lower end Mac.

Why? Sony's hypervisor neuters the kernel's access to the hardware. Even if there was a client it still would get a tiny fraction of the main PS3's output.
Ah of course :o
Explain if you wish :)
