ps3 loading times

My PS3 takes a long time to load anything- GTA V takes a good 5 mins to load (after the logos), uncharted 3 takes 3 or 4 minutes to load. When I access the store it takes a long time to load up and when I delete a game it takes 5 mins or so for a standard 8gb game. Is this normal or is it something to do with the hard drive?

I'm gonna say that's normal, although GTA 5 shouldn't take 5 mins to load but it can take a couple of mins at least.

Deleting has always been slow too.

None of those sound right to me. Might be worth starting the PS3 up in recovery mode and using the 'Restore file system' and 'Rebuild database' options.

I wouldn't call that normal since deleting a game of that size shouldn't take 5 minutes (it should only take a minute or so to delete a game of that size, and that comes from my own experience).

If the suggestion by TheVoice doesn't work, then you'll have to invest in a new hard drive and back up as much as you can before doing the swap.

If I'm looking at a new hard drive, will any 2.5" 5400rpm 500GB drive work? Does it have to be the exact same storage size as the original?

Nope, any will do. Might even want to consider a hybrid drive, uses an SSD cache to improve performance. There's a deal for a Toshiba one on HotUKDeals in either 500GB or 1TB.

I think the max size a PS3 recognises is 1TB so maybe max it out with a 1TB 2.5" Hitachi 7200 rpm for about £50

Doing the two recovery things helped a great deal and pretty much halved the loading / deleting times

You don't have to get a hard drive that is the same size since it can take hard drives up to 1TB, but you can only used hard drives that are 9.5mm thick so you have to be careful if you ever do replace the hard drive.

Glad it got sorted. Mine also takes ages, so need to do the same!
