PS3 Media Playback Types

Looking at either a HTPC or a PS3 for my new setup. The HTPC will cost more than the PS3 but will play a wider range of media.

My question is will the PS3 play ISO images of DVDs? The video_ts folders? DivX, XviD does it upscale these files as well?

No to ISO images, No to VIDEO_TS folders. Yes to DivX, XviD upscaling.

best bet by FAR for quality anyway

is

MKV container using H264 Codec + AC3 audio

then use MKV2VOB to convert into a VOB that the PS3 can playback
