PS3 Media Server RAM Usage

How much ram does your PS3 Media Server use, mine seems to be hogging around 750MB! This seems a little high to me.

Mine seems to use about 40mb when just streaming and 250mb when transcoding.

Either way, a lot less than 750mb

It's javaw.exe *32 that's hogging the memory, PS3 media server is the only app I have that uses Java, when I close media server javaw.exe closes too.

What's the problem though? Are you struggling for system resources or just don't like using the memory in your system?

The problem being it's using almost a gig of ram, even hardcore photoshop use doesn't use that much ram. Just wondering why it's using so much.

Hardly a problem though unless you're trying do something else at the same time and your experience is suffering. RAM is there to be used, why complain that it's being used.

agreed unless it's a leak, it's better in the ram than the page file.

I think it buffers whatever its transcoding into RAM, is it only using 750mb when you are playing something back? If so im pretty sure theres an option that lowers the buffer size...

It's using 750mb when it's idle.

Much better getting a cable connection in place, wireless is by all accounts fairly useless for the kinda of data youd be transmitting

Mine's 45mb at idle (ps3 on, so maybe it loads thumbnails or something.
