Hi.
What options are there out there for streaming content from my PC to my PS3?

Something very lightweight would be good, as i dont want/need it to do any conversions, just present specific folders to my PC for playback.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Thanks in advance all. :).

Windows media player can stream directly to the PS3 - there are loads of 'How Tos' dotted about the web - just Google them

Windows Media player 11 works just fine for me

just dont forget to the allow the service through your firewall, it doesnt automatically (which seems stupid) and you have to do it yourself. Once you've done this the rest is childs play.

I use Nero Media home, it's never failed to transcode anything apart from HD content.

I've tried to use TVersity and i really want to like it but it's a little flaky for me and I've never got the codecs working.

Im not keen on WMP11, that and its not the best thing around i find.

Ive found this:
http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
Gonna have a quick play, and then look into to TVersity as well.

54g WiFi good enough for playback of video?
Or am i gonna be better going to the effort of sticking a cat cable in?

54g is fine for anything up to 720p assuming it's a good connection. As soon as you hit 1080p expect frequent buffering.

Fine for normal videos but it will probably struggle if your trying to do anything HD.
Yeah, just been testing with the media playing client ive found, SD=fine, HD=jerky.
I'll rewire the cat cables round the room over the weekend. :p.

I'm using ps3 media server which was recommeded in an another thread. Previously I had been having problems viewing media through my ps3. I installed it pointed it to the right folders and that was it. Two weeks later its not skipped a beat:) It does what it says on the tin and any fool could set it up. And its free! cant go wrong.

I think can stream 1080p fine (with TVersity) as long as I am not doing anything else, but I hardly use it so I could be wrong

PS3 Media Server is the best, it lets you view your whole pc for video files and even transcodes ISO's on the fly, no drop in quality at all.

I use Tversity. Couldn't get PS3 Media Server to work properly for some reason, although it did look very good what you could do with it. Like streaming HD Gametrailers videos etc.

Originally I used Windows Media Player, but then went on a quest to find something that can include subtitles. I tried TVersity for hours but could never get it to include the subs. Now I'm with PS3 Media Server :) It's lightweight and just works out the box. You can also tweak settings to match your network speed.

PS3 media centre has actually stopped me from buying a popcorn hour it is that good, sure i miss some stuff from the pch but its a solid product

What sort of system should i be looking at to do the encoding on the fly at 1080p?

Im thinking:
C2D.
2Gb ram.
Any video, any sound.
Gig NIC.
& tons of storage.
