Hi folks,

Got an old 60GB fat model which recently seems to be misbehaving slightly.

1. Firstly, I'm sure BBC I player used to be in the video menu, but now it's gone. I can start the internet browser and go to iplayer, browse chanells, shows etc, but when I start one the PS3 crashes. Not hugely bothered as it works fine on the Wii.

2. If i try to start Playstation home I get "an error occured during the install operation (80010014)". Again not bothered and dont even really know what that is anyway, but what gives?

3. Playstation store works, but if I actually try and download anything (e.g. free demo) I get good old 80010014.

4. Fired up singstar Abba last night (yeah yeah I know :) ) and it said it wants to update. Click OK and get... yup - 80010014.

Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? Problem seems internet/network based, right, but internet connection (wifi) seems to work as I can browse the net/store etc. I can start GT5 prologue which requires signing in to the network too. Try to update system software and it says it's already up to date. Can pass the internet connection test also.

Currently lost as to what to try next. One thought that occured to me is could it be anything to do with my router? Have an 02 home broadband wifi router thingy. I did notice in the settings for that the option to tell it what each connected device is (PC, games console etc) cant see why it'd want to know that, or remember what I set it too, so maybe worth a play, but think I'm clutching at straws there.

Any help much appreciated. Cheers,

Liam

1. This sometimes happens if you've recently updated the Ps3. A simple reboot fixes this usually.

2, 3 & 4. These are network issues and you should look into connection.

It sounds almost like something has got 'stuck' installing which is stopping you from doing the things you mentioned. Have you tried re-downloading something from your recently purchased/downloaded list to see if you get the same thing (if you google the error code you get something mentioning that). I assume you have enough hard disk space?

Cheers, guys

Whappers: Been a fair few reboots and nothing has changed. I agree these seem to be network issues, but the connection seems fine - don't know what else I can do to investigate that further :(.

Andshrew: Hmm yeah it sort of does feel like something is 'stuck' and just needs a kicking. Perhaps the last system software update? But there seems to be no way of getting that to reinstall. Hmmm will try to redownload an already purchased game - I guess uninstall it first? Hmmm wipeout HD will have to do... Hard disk space is fine - the old 60 is now a 320 and nowhere near full.

Will keep on trying stuff...

Hmmmm - been playing around a little...

So I did a restore default settings - had to reenter network settings, PSN signin etc etc. Made no difference.

I've got two games saying they need to update, but always fails with 80010014. However, I succesfully played an online game of SSF2 remix. Also another game downloaded some new content (just trophies). So the internet connection is fine, but then again it isn't... but it is... but it isnt... arrrghhh!!

Clicking playstation store from within the games or video menu gives a different error - 80010006 - woo!

If I go to my recent downloads list, anything I click just gives 80010014.

What if I was to get drastic - backup to another HDD and do a full reformat? Good idea?

Alternatively, is there any official tech support line I can try that's any good?

Cheers,

Liam

Well, phoned playstation support in the end. The guy told me to open a bunch of ports on me router but didn't make a difference. Thought it might not as I never had to open any before. Read somewhere about the super-secret recovery menu and did a file system restore from there. All working now :)
