Hi guys, can anyone suggest a decent monitor that will perform well with the PS3 for under £200-00.

I've heard a lot of conflicting reports about the HP W2207H, and the Samsung SM2032BW.

I don't really mind 20 or 22'' to be honest.

As an aside, do composite, HDMI or DVI inputs offer the same performance, or is one superior?

Thanks.

HDMI and DVI supply exactly the same video signal, the difference is that DVI doesnt carry an audio signal. Composite is an awful out of date technology and should be avoided with a passion. In order to connect your PS3 to a dvi monitor all you need is a HDMI -> DVI converter and a hdmi cable, obviously you will also need a audio cable of some sort (preferably optical) to connect to a speaker set.

In terms of which monitor to get, i would say they're all much of a muchness at that price range, i have the 2032BW and its... ok - nothing particularly wrong with it, but it isn't fantastic. All you really need to worry about is whether the monitor supports HDCP (the 2032 does), as without that, the PS3 will refuse to work.

Best advice i could give is find a couple in your price range go into a store that claims to be planetary to PCs and look at em in person, then come back to overclockers and buy it at a lower price.

I would say that, whilst Full HD is not as common as sony would have you believe in PS3 games, it is worth considering saving that little extra and buying a 1920 * 1200 capable monitor for the PS3 as it is full HD capable. It wouldnt cost you a lot more.

I've just got the HP w2207h you speak of and i love it, i chose it over the samsung 2232 pebble as the colour and contrast looks better, the blacks are blacker etc. Specs are the same for both monitors except the samsung offers 2ms response time over the HP's 5ms, though playing TDU and HL2 i haven't noticed any ghosting and i've looked for it. I think the HP's glossy front makes the colours look richer on the HP and imo it also looks a better monitor.

Thanks guys - to be honest, I'm drawn to the HP one, which is also, it seems offers HDMI with HDCP, and a standard VGA slot for my PC, so I might plan a pre-Christmas swoop!
