Have any of you guys got your PS3 hooked up to a monitor through a DVI connection? If so which one and how's the picture?

Have been debating over which monitor I need, I really dont want to go and buy a new TV as I dont have the room and the one i've got is just fine, minus the fact that its HD.

Will the picture be just as good on a monitor with a res of 1680x1050 as it would be on a HD LCD with a 720p res?? I know about HDCP and that the monitor i choose will need to have this, stupid sony, why enable HDCP on games?

Kind Regards

Mike

Hi mike,
I'd personally ask this in the monitor forums as those guys are professionals :D .
But if you want to hook up your PS3 to your pc monitor you would first of all need a HDMI-DVI adaptor to set it up to the monitor.
Since you're asking about monitors, you would need a 24" monitor to fully enjoy 1080P (ie. a dell or BenQ).
Just remember that no matter what you would need to find a solution for sound as the monitors don't have speakers, if you have an I/O port (ie. Xfi) then an optical cable can help.

you can just use the composite lead for sound. If you do it through a soundcard you'd need to have your PC on to get the sound for your PS3.

any monitor you use needs to support HDCP over DVI.

I've got the sound and the hdmi to dvi adapter sorted it was which monitor to go for that was throwing me. I'll post again in the monitor forum.

Thanks guys

Baddass should be able to help though i recommend you get a panel that accepts 1080p resolution.

Some of the newer 21" + 1680x1050 panels will....
You dont need a 24" panel with a higher res to enjoy 1080p.

I use a Samsung 215TW (1680x1050) for my X360 sometimes via component which is fine with 1080p input and looks better than the 720p output from the console.

Heres why 1080p looks better
1280x720 = 720p = 400x320 pixels to scale to monitor native
1920x1080 = 1080p = 240x30 pixels to scale

Hope it helps

The man speaketh truth. I was reading up on 22' models and it seems a lot of them do actually have the feature of downscaling 1080p modes to fit your screen, have a look around mate, the one that springs to mind is the BenQ 22' panel that is sold on OCUK.
