PS3 Multiplayer Games Selection?

I'm looking to get a PS3, and of course will be purchasing GTA4 and MGS4, but id like to be able to get a game that i will be able to play with my mates and brothers.
I have played COD4 on the PC and was disappointed with the MP, but i do like the look of Unreal Tournament 3 (i played the demo on the PC and liked it), but i haven't played a FPS on a console for years and not sure if the console version will be any good

I just need a good MP game that i can play off-line with some mates for a while, any suggestions welcome please

any particular games you like? co-op or versus?

I would recommend army of two. it got bashed as a single player game but i played co-op all the way through (the way its intended to be played) and was pretty fun

i really cant imagine UT3 working on a joypad, even if it is slowed down. I know you can plug in mouse and keyboard but as a multiplayer game it isnt ideal. In fact i dont think ut3 for ps3 even has split screen.
