Right, I'm thinking of buying a PS3 again and I'm just wondering what games out there for the PS3's are so called "must haves"?

Now I realize that GT5, MGS4, FFXII and Haze are all due out. But if I was to pick up a PS3 this week, what's out there to keep me gaming and keep me happy?

F1 CE does look like great fun (as a die hard F1 fan), and GT5 Prologue is imminent but I'm really struggling to find games that are out right now that give me good enough reason to buy it (I do have a Wii and a 360 too).

Ratchet and Clank has caught my eye... it's always good to have a decent platformer, but is this any good?

Motorstorm has also caught my eye.

So, can somebody tempt me to part with my money... or shall I wait a few months until a few more exclusives have hit the shelves?

I am tempted by the prospect of BluRay too, and I'm sure it would get used.

How quiet is the PS3 compared to the 360 though? If it's roughly the same, then it would be cheaper to stick a BluRay drive into my Media Centre :o

I don't think I made myself clear sorry.

As I said, I do have a 360 and a Wii, and also have a high spec PC for gaming. Games like Oblivion and UT3 that are major PC releases will always be bought on PC first.

Any major release in the last few months that is out on dual format, then I more than likely own on the 360... so I'm really looking for games out there that either PS3 exclusives or are better on the PS3 than the 360 :)

Good to see recommendations of a few of the games I've been looking at though (Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank... Ninja Gaiden too, forgot about that!)

Wheres ino and his list?:D

Anyway, Ratchet and clank is a great game, its more of a shooter platform game with possibly more of an emphasis on weapons than actual platforming. But if you have played a Ratchet and clank game before you will know the routine. The sixaxis is used quite well but you do have an option to use the sticks, its also a fairly long game about 12-16 hrs or so on the first run through, but you will want to do it again for all the extras you can get.
F1CE is a good F1 sim, it looked awesome when first released but thanks to GT5P looks a bit dated now, i enjoyed it loads when i had it but never tried it online much.
Motorstorm is fun, but get it cheap as there is tons of DLC (some free) on the PSN with new cars, tracks, game modes, etc. There is no splitscreen MP game though and that would make it great IMO.
Uncharted is fantastic and probably looks better than any PS3 (or 360) game out at the moment (IMO), but its only a 10 hr game or so, longer if you play on harder levels and try to get all the awards and treasures.
UT3 well its unreal on a console, bout it rarely, seems fast for a console shooter with free mods available it extends the value of the game immensely.
Hot shots golf 5 (or whatever its called now) a good golf game, check the reviews and previews think its out in a week or so.
Also i know its a way off, but if you order MGS4 now you will get a disk for the Metal Gear online beta test starting 17th april.
As for the noise level most people say the PS3 is a lot quieter than the 360, i can only hear mine if the fan ramps upto level 3, but as i dont have a 360 i cannot compare it TBH.
As you have all the other formats its not like your going to be short on games to play anyway lol!

Looking good so far :)

Does the PS3 have a decent demo system similar to XBL? (Although I wish XBL would be updated demo wise... it's been an age since the last update! :()

I'd be happy with a PS3 and a couple of games and some decent downloaded demos to tide me over until I make my mind up to be honest.

yes, although you have to tell each demo to install after its downloaded and then wait for it to do so, thats annoying me. As for lack of updates, what can they do if there aren't any demos available at the moment?

If you dont background download the demo, and just do it from the store it will automatically install the game when finished downloading (not a lotta people know that lol). So its ideal if you just want 1 demo say and dont mind waiting for it to finish, otherwise you have to install manually.

I didn't know that, thats pretty useful, still wish it would just go through and install them if you background download them. I can't believe I've never seen it mentioned on here because the 360 doesn't have that problem

Yeah I have heard about that installing thing... on the demos, well I guess Microsoft could hound developers for demos? But I'm sure there are a fair few old games that haven't had demos for download that have been available elsewhere, look at Halo 3 for example?

But lets not get into that.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Call of Duty 4
Assassins Creed
Burnout Paradise

If you don't have an Xbox360:
The Darkness

Thought you're supposed to be a mod, read the thread at all!? :p

Out of curiosity, why did you put Assassins Creed, CoD4 and Burnout Paradise there before you mentioned "If you don't have a 360"? All of those titles are available on the 360 too? Are they better on the PS3?

And yes... I do have a 360, and any good title that's been out on the 360 I will probably own, as I have said before

I think he means that out of those games they are all as good on the PS3 as they are on the 360, except The Darkness which is a very poor port. Therefore if you had a 360 and PS3 you should definitely get it on 360. As you said though, failed to read posts :p

ps3 is very very quiet, i would almost consider it to be silent. basically if you have any sort of volume coming out from anywhere, even the tinest amount then the ps3 is inaudible. people are saying that the fans do speed up somewhat if you play upscaled dvds though ive not tested this myself.. it is silent during gameplay though.

Must have games (exclusives):
Uncharted
Warhawk
Tekken 5 DR Online (psn)
Super Stardust HD (psn)

The main bulk of the big exclusives will be coming throughout the year, if its only the exclusives that youre interested in then maybe its best to wait to see if theres any more price drops or something.

As you said, gt prologue is coming very soon, then theres mgs4 in june

Ah right fair enough, think I get what he was trying to say now!

To be fair, it is really only a matter of time before I own a PS3 (as I'm sure it is for most people, apart from the die hard 360 fanboys), and I'm just weighing it up as to whether to shell out for one now.

There's always titles in the future that people say and that you know will be worth the investment (like I said in the OP) but just wondering will there be anything that lets me play it now rather than gathering dust until something goods come out :p

GT5 Prologue looks good, but I'm just a bit concerned at shelling out roughly £20 for something that is basically just a beefed up demo I suppose?

Also nice to know it's relatively silent too, as every PC (inc my Media Centre) I build is silent so the 360 is easily the loudest piece of entertainment hardware I have :o

Because they are around the same. The Darkness is a poor port on the PS3, so the Xbox360 version is notably better.
The others you have a fair choice.

If you're talking exclusives, I'd say:
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.

I'm an Underboss, not a mod. I haven't been around in consoles much lately and only speed read threads in here these days so I wasn't sure whether you'd be trading the Xbox360 in to get a PS3 (as most seem to).

F1CE is definitely worth a purchase if your an F1 fan, it's really good - although tracks and teams are now a couple of years out of date.

Motorstorm is worth a purchase too as it's just a really good fun arcade style racer - I believe the demo is still on PSN though so you may want to give it a try first.

Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is a really good tomb raider style action game, although it's quite short, but still worth a play.

Other than that I would say Rachet and Clank is a good platform game and then there are plenty of games and demos on PSN to keep you busy for a good while - even more so if you create a US PSN account as they seem to get games and demos way before europe... see sticky for instructions on how to do this.

No worries mate, I was only yanking your chain :p

I'll be keeping my 360, this is the first time I will have owned all major consoles at once so I plan on keeping them all until I can be absolutely sure one is being favoured over the other. Even then, there's games on the 360 that my other half really enjoys that wont be on the PS3 any time soon (Viva Piñata). Plus the fact I'll guarantee that I'll sell one and there will be some huge game out for the one I sell :o

The only thing that would probably sway me to one over the other is the 360 pad, after years of solid gameplay on a PS2 and occasional gameplay on an Xbox I was forever saying the PS pads were leagues ahead... after playing on the 360's for long enough... I can't stand PS style pads now :o
