PS3 & My Monitor?

Hey fellas just a quick question. I need to know if I purchase a HDMI to VGA cable for my PS3; would it work with my Dell Ultrasharp U2412M monitor?

The reason I'm asking is because on the eBay page where I'm thinking about getting the cable from under the description it says this:

"If you are connecting HDMI Devices to output devices such as Projector,
LCD, TV and so on, it may not work unless these output devices
are HDMI enabled which mean they have built in signal
converter to accept HDMI Signal through VGA Port."

So it got me thinking as this monitor doesn't actually have a HDMI connection (It's one of the downsides of it.) Instead it's fitted with an incredibly useless Displayport..

Thanks in advance.

For sound I use the ps3 composite cable and hook that into my audio in on the pc with a
Twin 2x RCA PHONO Female to 1x 3.5mm Stereo Jack Male adapter.

Wait so you plug the standard composite cable into the PS3 & the HDMI-DVI-D?
Then you use the adapter on the composite to to the audio jacks into the computer.

Is that right?

That's a 1200p monitor same as my Samsung. If the 16:9 image is stretched, it will look washed out and slightly the wrong shape.
