PS3 = NAS on wireless router as switch?!

Okay, as title really, I have a PC which I am currently encoding my DVD collection to using DVD Shrink. I also have a spare 500GB 3.5" HDD.

I have my PC Ethernet cabled to my wireless broadband router. Is it possible to attach my spare HDD to my router to use it as a NAS drive. I remember using a wireless router as a switch some years ago at work, but I can't remember how!

End result I'm looking for is that my PS3 will see the new improvised NAS drive on my wireless network, or possibly over powerline net which I am looking at so I can watch movies from the network attached HDD on my PS3 without having to go and faff about with my PC. I currently have a 160GB drive in my PS3 which I can add files to as well, but I have alternative plans for my PS3 drive space involving Linux.

PS. I can get my DVDs down to about 2.0GB total size, but I can't find any software which shrinks the file size anymore. Anyone got any ideas?

Ta

Andy

Routers have switches built in mate, a router is just a LAN switch with a WAN uplink (be it a built in modem, or an uplink port).

In short, get a NAS caddy for the HDD.
