I think my PS3 (One of the old 60gb version) is dead so after some advice on what to do next......

Background: I went to turn on my PS3 last night but there was no power, I switched the power supply button at the back of the PS3 off then on again and this seemed to restore power to the PS3. I turned the PS3 on , it loaded up and then without warning or any beeps/fans etc it just shut off again.

I can repeat the above sometimes with success for a couple of minutes and sometimes not at all......

So my options are :
1) Send to Sony for a repair
2) Send to a third part for repair
3) Fix it myself
4) Bite the bullet and buy a Slim version :)

I'd prefer to give option 3 a go , I am guessing it is a PSU failure....how easy is it to swap a PSU out and replace with a new one?

It is out of warranty so not worried about opening it up....

My PS3 is central to my home media network so need it up and running again asap! :)

I'm dreading that mine (also an old 60gb) will go soon with the sprialling number of failures reported!!
Mine is also a centre of media (bluray, dvd, music, games), so dreading the day :S

Will keep an eye on this thread for future :)

Thanks for the feedback guys....I think I will go for the Slim although I checked town last night and they only seem to have the 320gb version in stock everywhere! That is slightly excessive for me.....just want the cheaper 120gb lol but seems like gold dust even on the internet grrr
