PS3 not picking up discs...?

Hi all,

My friend's got a PS3 on which the Blu-Ray drive does not seem to be working.

Any disc you put in - The system doesn't pick it up.

Any ideas?

Could be the Laser dead, but i hear that sometimes firmware can cause the problem. Would be best to call Sony Customer service and they will talk him through it, if not search the net for a possible solution if its a firmware problem. If its out of warranty the BD drive can be purchased for about £40 online, probably cheaper than a repair.

I had that a couple of weeks ago - wasnt reading anything but was waking up when I put a disc in - returned it to Sony for a drive repair/swap...

Took 5days to get it back to me

i had that a while ago, never got round to sendin it off
then i turned it on again, installed the latest ver and it worked again xD

Same as what happened to mine. Got it replaced within 24 hours after ringing sony care. Was still within warranty though

Yep

- by a month or so, its a 60Gb which has to be fixed (dont have many lying around I suspect), while the others can be swapout for a refurb...

mines a 60gb only 3 months out of warranty. will call them tomoro or when they are open..
