Hi,

All of a sudden yesterday my PS3 just decided to stop reading discs, that includes both DVD and BR. It was fine up until that point never had any problems, I realized there was a new software update so I did that but it didn't help anything. I also restored default settings to the system but that didn't help either, the blue light is on indicating it's recognizing that something is there but it's just not showing up on the XMB. I turned 'auto start' on for discs and restarted hoping it would automatically load the disc that way but no dice.

Anyone got any ideas? I bought the console a year ago last week and it's been perfect up until now, I was half way through Prototype for god sake :( :(

Sounds like your drive diode has bitten the dust. Ring up Sony, they should replace it seeing as it's only just out of warranty.

You can fix it yourself - but Id get Sony on the case.

Just get it backed up before you ship it out (HD backup, game saves seperately just in case, upload to sync trophies)

ps3ud0

mine was 2 weeks out of warranty they gave me a refurb and suggested that continuous play

came next day too.

back up your saves !

I gave them a call earlier, talked to a lady that advised there would normally be a charge of £99.99 for service but because I'm only 6 days out of warranty if I send the receipt of purchase into them they should be able to service it free of charge. Girlfriend took pity on me aswell as I had rented Prototype out and probably won't get to finish it now so she's off to buy me the game tomorrow, fairytale ending lol.

Good advice, I couldn't do it as mine was YLOD.

There are some saves that will not allow a copy to USB/External drive, will a full backup copy those savegames or are they also excluded from the backup?
